So.... Recently the first volume of animes have been coming with a "SUPER LIMITED EDITION BOX SET!"... Last Exile looks awesome, though ive never actually seen the show. Something about it makes me really want to buy that overpriced box set, though.

Im just checking in here to see if anyone has seen it, and to ask is it worth it. Worth it to buy 7 DVDs over the course of 7 months, paying an ungodly sum of money for individual volumes when there is still a chance that a cheap (complete) box set will come out after all the DVDs are released.

Im thinking 'what the hell...' but you know.... if everyone says it sucks, Ill roll with that.

It's a good series, has great characters, sweet visuals, and an awesome ending, but it gets pretty slow over a bunch of episodes and the plot isn't anything groundbreaking or mindbending. Has good music too.

If you don't buy it you wouldn't be really missing anything, but if you did get it you'd probably enjoy it. It's better through the 2nd watch through too, imo, since you don't really know what's up at the beginning and there's never really any parts where they set you aside to explain stuff, but that doesn't really ever matter.

One of the best series to come out this year, hands down. (Fansub AND DVD). I caught it while it was released on fansub. I just recently got my super-duper-numbah-one LE edition and will begin to watch the series again come the weekend, for sure.

First of all, if you think it's being released over 7 months, I hate to break this to you, but it's being released bi-monthly. The final volume will be released December of 2004. 200FOUR.

But it is a good series, definately worth the wait.

And the other thing is, when a box set is released with the beginning volume, it means that a box set will not be released with all 7 volumes in it (not officially at least). The company will possibly release the series as a brick in the future (all the discs in a brick box, but no individual DVD cases), but that will be after they think the series has lost it's popularity.

That's not THAT bad... I've been waiting since September to get the second DVD of Haibane Renmei... and now I don't have enough money for it!

Stupid Christmas shopping...

Caught this on fansub. Definitely a good show, but not a classic --- as others have noted, it drags over some episodes and the characters are not as well fleshed-out as I would have liked. It builds a very interesting world, but we don't get to see much of it. Stellar aerial scenes and well-integrated CGI, as well as attractive character designs to my eye. Not as much aerial combat as I thought it would have, but what it did have was pretty good (very remiscent of RETURN OF THE JEDI's climactic space battle, and that's a compliment).

SPOILERS:

For instance, can anyone give me a good reason why Sophia kissed Claus if she was in love with Alex? Also, Delphine's death was a bit anticlimactic, while Alvis' connection with the EXILE is never really explained --- where did it come from, why did she have it? And where exactly was Claus' and Lavie's relationship at the end? Tatiana's character arc also never seemed to really go anywhere, as well as her relationship with Claus.

Well, it seems the bulk of your leftover questions revolve around relationships. If you've watched enough anime, especially them romantic comedies, you'll notice a lot of them DON'T specifically tell you where all the little relationships are at even by the end of the series. Now, if these series' are NOT romantic comedies and just some other genre w/ some small type of romance in it, you can bet that those relationships will be even more up in the air. Them anime guys love doing that. Pisses me off, but you get used to it.... sorta.

As far as your question about Alvis, well, that's something that never bothered me. I didn't think that detail was relevant enough that it had to be told.

Oh, and lastly, that super-duper-numbah-one LE Box is nice. It ain't extremely fancy or nothing, but it's alright. I wish it came with the OST though. More companies should do that with their "ultimate" LE boxes. This ---- looks SO MUCH SWEETER on my TV and sounds SO MUCH SWEETER on my audio system than the fansubs.... obviously, yes... but it's still tight.

Well I usually like to wait until a series is complete before buying a box set, unless the box set at the beginning is a limited one such as this.

I had heard only good things about this series so when I saw the box set I knew I had to buy it.

So far I haven't had a chance to watch it, I still have to finish my real analysis assignment before I can sit down and watch it.

Good set, only thing that's missing is a soundtrack.

Also does anyone know if the future releases of the dvds will come with extras? I thought I heard something about this but I'm not quite sure.l

Seems to me, after watching the first volume, like Skies of Arcadia (http://maxpages.com/finfan/Skies_Of_Arcadia_Photo_Gallery) (as seen through some of the pics here) with land. I see it's potential, but the first 4 eps hasn't anywhere near lived up to the hype it has been getting. I'll hope that'll change in the subsequent vols.

Actually, looking at the airship pics, it seems very much like it.

I have watched the first DVD, and have really liked the animation and the characters. I agree with most previous poster that the story is not anything unusual, but it not particurarly bad either.
Overall, it's a very good anime.
