Now just where did Kaneda get his bike from? Did he steal it or did he buy it? Stealing it would be risky because the cops would check up on gangs or stolen good. But then again he doesn't look like the kind of person who would have a part time job. Plus the bike looks like it would cost a fortune. So where do you think Kaneda got his bike from?

I believe when Tetsuo was sitting on it and possibly trying to start it (can't remember the scene well, my memory is a bit fuzzy), I remember Kaneda telling Tetsuo that if he wanted one he should steal one himself. So I'm pretty positive it is stolen.

Yeah i think he stole it also, and then modded it an upgraded it himself.

Because of the endorsement stickers on it, I always thought that it probably was owned by a pro racer or racing team. Kinda like all the crap they put on NASCAR race cars.

In the original translation, Kaneda says "That bike's been designed especially for me" (or something very close to that, it's been a while), which makes you wonder who would design a bike for a street punk, and where Kaneda could possibly get the money...

In the newer translation, Kaneda says that he's modified the bike, and that Tetsuo should steal one himself if he wants one. Which makes you think that the original translators were huffing paint fumes or something.
