I was at the store the other day and I saw some Bubblegum Crisis tapes. I have been interested in this series for a long time, but I noticed that the dubbed tapes are a lot cheaper than the subtitled. I want to save some money if it's not going to affect my purchase. Are the subtitled worth the extra $5.00? In some of the dubbed series that I have watched have VERY anoying dubbed voices. I just want to make sure I won't make the wrong purchase. ^-^

are you talking about the oavs or the tv series? I don't know about the dubbed voices for 2040, but I have seen both dub and sub of the oavs. IMO, I like the subs much better. :) More swearing in the DUBS, but voice acting is not that strong.

Sounds like the OAV to me, 2040 subs are hard to come by. The dubs pretty loyal to the Japanese script so I see no real problem with it. Get a DVD player and this will no longer be a prob. I love my multi-lingual DVDs

BubbleGum Crisis is the first anime I've seen that actually sounds way cool dubbed! The dubbed version of this series is even better done than DBZ(but DBZ is still my main anime to watch)! I'm collecting and watching all the BGC videos now and I have to go tomorrow and pick up another volume. Check you later!

Go for the dubs, this honestly is one of the first anime I have seen where they actually got the dubbing right :D

I own the DVDs so I can comment on both. As much as I like dubs, I have to say that the sub's of BGC are suprerior.

Two things in particular stand out in my mind as being particularly important. The original Japanese music soundtrack is simply brilliant, one of the best sound tracks of any ainme ever. The English renditions are a poor shadow by comparison. They're tinny, shallow, sythesised and can't compare to the powerful rock of the original. Even when I'm watching the dubbed version of the DVD I swap to Japanese for the music.

Priss' voice acting is particularly weak. All of the characters seem to have timing and emotive problems with their voices, but Priss' is worst. The scene that summs it up for me is *spolier* Sylvie's death scene. In the Japanese, Priss' screams of grief are absolutely heart-breaking, and bring a lump to my throat every time. But the English voice acting in this scene is woeful. Priss sounds less grieved and more constipated. It can't compare.

I am a big fan of dubbed anime, but in the case of BGC, the sub is better to listen to.

ON THE OTHER HAND.... A lot of the plot is quite thick, and it can sometimes be hard to follow if you're trying to read it. Also, I think Ep8 is better in English because I love NeNe's english voice, and Lisa's English voice actor is FAR superior to the Japanese.
