Does anyone know if the Escaflowne movies has been picked up by an American company or fan subbed? I've heard mixed reviews about the movie and I'd like to see it for myself.

The Esca movie HAS been fansubbed, but it also is commercially owned by Bandai/Sunrise USA, which were directly involved in the production of the movie.
Bandai has been coming down VERY heavily on ppl distributing its licensed material (i.e. calling the lawyers) so the majority of fansub distro sites have pulled the Esca movie off their lists...well, they should have done so regarless since it was licensed. The Esca movie was originally digitally fansubbed, so all the fansub video copies are just copies of the DivX version that have been outed to video.

Mika-chan<~~~~patiently people
I can wait till it's commercially released. Thanx for telling me! ^_^
I've heard reports that now that they have begun the process of dubbing the entire series (Uncut also, so you don't have to deal with the FOX cuts) that the movie will be out late 2001 or early 2002, when the dubs are completed.
Although, I've only seen a preview of the movie, I can tell you, it would be awesome to see it on the big screen.

I have seen the entire movie and while I wouldn't call it better than the series, it is certainly equal. The thing is, its not a continuation of the tv series. Instead they opted to pretty much tell the entire story over again in a slightly modified fashion. All the characters except the emperor are there, but their roles are different. Hitomi is older in the movie and less upbeat. Actually, the whole thing is darker on average than the tv series. Very good, though. Very, very good. Absolutely worth watching wether you've seen the tv series or not. I know I intend to buy it when they release it. I don't want to wait until 2002! Arrrgh!
