View Full Version : Hmm, alright. Can someone tell me a bit about this anime?
I saw a few previews of it on my Evangelion DVDs, and it looks kinda interesting. The mecha designs are unique looking, like Escaflowne's, which I like.
What's the jist of it?
How strong are the mecha?

It's a very serious Military/Love Story. I myself love it while many other find it quite boring. So if you don't mind something that is very slow pace compared to a few other anime's and that fact that it is almost 100% Drama then go for it. But while it moves slowly it can be quite confusing (But not Lain or Boogipop confusing) because of the mass of information given to you.
So if you are still interested in it now then go for it because that's what you are getting into.
Something you've gotta watch twice to completely understand. That's my best explination. :heh:

How strong are the robots? Well, they are stronger than tanks but not as strong as jets. For anime mecha they are very down to earth.

International politics + powerful Japanese patriarch conspiracy + mysterious spiritual forces + young adults beginning to love each other + relatively realistic military scenarios.
It gets weird near the end when these become interconnected, but it was very entertaining. It also has more than a few parallels to the way the second war in Iraq occured.
I am also considering buying this anime, and would like to know if the ending is any good?
I find if the ending to an anime is good i end up liking it.
Rate the ending please. :)

That's because the script drew an astonishing amount from actual news bulletins based around that conflict (allegedy).
Personally, I really enjoy Gasaraki for the intrigue and military conspiracy.
As for the ending, it kind treads into Eva territory and is very weird (But I'm thnakful that at least it didn't go the direction of the Eva movie and end the whole thing with utter genocide).
Ultimately, Gasaraki is a series that requires patience.

I bought the series on DVD and couldn't be happier with purchase. I'm into the Robot/Political Anime. But what I love about this anime and others such as Patlabor, the robots aren't so advanced that it is too futuristic to comprehend, they actually seem right around the corner. It is very slow moving if your looking for machine crunching robot fights but if you are like me and into the political storyline and realistic approach to the technology then this is a must have.
P.S. The end does get weird like Evangelion but not to the extreme. :yippee:

I lent Gasaraki to a friend of mine who is into the whole Military thing and he loved it. So while to Anime Fans it might be slow, it does have it audience.

I really liked it a lot. I think its slow for a mecha series, but I've seen some similarly paced anime.
I think that it's hard for some westerners to handle long animated adult fare.
I've been thinking of rewatching, and you folks have convinced me.
