Who here has read the pilot? What are your thoughts on it? It's quite an interesting read. The pilot seemed like it was going to be stand alone chapters after the first two chapters, but obviously, it was the pilot and things were changed for the better. But anyway, for those who hasn't read the pilot (although I'm sure that people following the manga has read the pilot...), here's a summary:
The setting is Mt. Oinari, Mountain area. In the past, a powerful demon fox called the nine tails attacked the mountains. The humans, to battle this, assembled 9 powerful humans to combat the demon fox. 8 of them die while the last one becomes the leader of the mountain area. Fast forward some 12 years later, the small baby demon nine tails that the 9th person didn't kill is now a trouble maker with no friends. Everyone in the village knows he's the nine tails demon, and this treating Naruto like one, and vice versa. The leader, in order to make Naruto NOT like his father (the actual nine tails), sends him on a mission to make a human friend, if not, he can't go back to the mountain. This brings him to a village, into an artist's house. Naruto experinces the good effects of friendship from the artist's assistant, which gets killed the next day ( :( ). Naruto vows to find the real killer, with the artist fully trusting him. He finds the killer by using his clone jutsu, and succesfully reinforces the trust in him by the artist. The artist can't go back to the mountain, so Naruto has to go find another human friend. end of story.
Yes, it sounds extremly cheesy, kind of like the friendship stuff that yu-gi-oh is about, but it would have turned out great if continued. I'd rather have the Naruto that we all know and love though :)
