This is why I don't start animes where people die. I decided to start watching some Narato after playing the GameCube fight game. And I really liked Zabuza. And what happens? He dies! This is like every other character I like! Gai, Jin-eh, Kagato, Evangelion Unit-03... :bawling:
At least he died with a bang.

Not all the bad ones die. Besides, he was able to be seen in a sympathetic light at least.

i never really saw him in a sympathetic light. I felt bad for his little ninja though. got told to do everything, and he had to listen to zabusa. Even if he wanted to, that seems a bit harsh.

Episode 19 - Zabuza, fallen in snow......This is one of my favorite episodes in the series, after this episode i was completely hooked, i'm glad he died, but only because they let him go out like that, to repent in his final moments of life, ahh just great.

i'm acutally kind of sad to see him go now. episode 19 was very touching. I love how naruto has that kind of power over people, only being 12  . Zabusa was awesome. i loved his sword. oh well

Still butters my muffin, he repented. But I'd rather have seen him live... I get the feeling there's Yaoi Dousji of him and the masked guy who looked like a girl.

bah, Zabuza was a weak character. there are far more better villains out there (in Naruto). I could name one particular badass.

Well, isn't that how it usually starts out? The first villians are weaker than later ones. It's a rule of anime. You can't have a powerful person take center stage immediatly, they'd crush the main character

by weak, i mean character, not strength. Zabuza isnt really screaming "badass" like other villains from other anime and within the series itself.
As for the quote, not neccesarily. There's a villain in the filler arc thats actually weaker than zabuza (and in the chuunin exam arc as well). There's another point but you'll see soon.

Well I still see it more as they didn't give him that much time to show his worth. They only had 2 battles with him. And only a little info, that's not enough.

Two battles is more than any demon gets in Inuyasha except for Naraku. He should concider himself lucky.
I did like Haku though. It was a bit sad to see him die. :]

Well I watched the anime version on Toonami in the states and I've refined by opinion...
The strongest moment in the arc, and possibly all of Naruto, is the moment Zabuza starts to cry.
Yes, we should hate him because he was all "I AM SO EVIL AND TOUGH AND I USE HAKU AS A TOOL... AND EVIL!"
But then, to see Zabuza, who we all thought was an emotionless bastard, just stand there and reflect and realize how much he loved Haku and how much he held back to maintain his image was almost heartbreaking. Again, it was possibly the most powerful moment in Naruto.
More importantly, it revealed that their relationship wasn't one-sided. As much as Haku believed that Zabuza only saw him as a weapon, it simply turned out not to be the case.
We are glad that Haku was mistaken.
If you want a little backstory on Zabuza, I suggest you read a short story called "If Pheasant Didn't Cry" it does give some more insight into a younger Zabazua (Happens right after he kills all the Genin) He's really like Naruto except he belives might is right and has a different sort of demonic aura.
his teacher commits suppeki as repentence to the other teachers for what Zabuza did.

Zabuza might be cruel, and doesn't care for anyone who gets in the way o his dream, but he had reasons, they are certainly not an excuse, but they do explain why a person turns out like they are.

That rule has an interesting catch in Naruto. Should any villain ever truly kill Naruto (difficult because when he is near death he goes into Demon Fox mode) then the Demon Fox will be released and whoever killed Naruto will have to face off against it.

I wonder if it means that Stephen J. Blum doesn't voice any other characters in Naruto. His range is kind of limited after all, the voice he used for Zabuza was one of the four main variations I've heard in all his work.

Please don't tell me that the badass you wanted to mention was Itachi. -_o
Zabuza's character was not SUPPOSED to be screaming "badass" all the way through. His change of heart in the end was actually what made him a powerful and realistic character, in my opinion. Geez, there is a complete and utterly evil badass in every anime, big whoop. *rolls eyes* But there are in fact few characters like Zabuza.
And the moment when he and Haku die was also probably one of the most powerful scenes in Naruto so far. So just because Zabuza wasn't "badass" enough doesn't mean he's a weak character. -_-

Actually, I thought if the host dies, the tail demon dies too? Although the fox says otherwise. Maybe it only applies to the other demons.

Well the Fox is pretty much in a time share deal with the body of Naruto. One would assume the closer to death Naruto gets, the weaker the seals placed to keep the Nine Tailed Fox in check would become and it would break free.
That seems more plausable since the Fox did state that if Naruto dies, he would die as well.
