Akira confusing?

OK...I saw the movie and was completely lost. Things just moved so fast in it, I couldn't follow. (it has been a while since I've seen it, mind you) Should I just start with the manga and then watch the movie again?

No one understands this movie. Ive only seen it once and it was just so insane I didnt even like it that much, but thinking back to it after I watched it it was an awsome movie. It was just sooo insane and creepy and stuff but thats what made it so good
