The first time I saw Akira was at a film festival in Ft.Lauderdale sometime between 1990-92. Of course I was so young that I didn't exactly get what was going on, I half expected the X-Men to show up in the middle of the movie.

Mid 90s for me, can't remember exactly but I do know I watched it on the SBS channel (Australia), I taped it to and I think I still have it somewhere.

D:

I might have watched the very same one as orochi X. All I remember was that it was sometime after NGE aired on SBS.

I first saw Akira with my siser during it's theatrical release in NYC years ago. It was a good time, the golden age of anime so to speak. I never looked back since.

First saw Akira shortly after I began getting into anime in any serious way. I recall, after BGC finished it's runon SBS here in Aus, I went to the video store and rented out as much anime as I dared. Akira was the first of the bunch I watched as I recalled hearing good things about it here. Suffice to say I was not prepared for it the first time I saw and, when I had finished watching, quite clearly remember thinking to myself, WTF????

Rented it from Blockbuster my Senior year of high school for a class project (I had to do a foreign film review) and haven't looked back since.

An older cousin introduced me to anime when I was younger. All I really remember is that I know I watched his copy of Akira at his house. Didn't really understand anything that was going on at the time but it still fascinated me and it's still one of my favorites.

I can't remember if it was a SBS screening after Evangelion finished or if it was a case of "Must watch every Anime I can hire from the Video Store". Either one of those but I don't think I liked it all that much. On the 2nd screening I liked it better. It was a bit like Ghost in the Shell. I hated that movie when I first saw it. But after I gave it another chance it grew on me.

I asked a guy I knew at Best Buy which anime movie he recommended and ended up purchasing the Special Edition Akira DVD set. At first, I really didn't know what to think of it... it intrigued me, but I didn't really like it. I had to watch it a second time before I found an appreciation for it.

Sometime in '92 or '93.

One night while staying over at a friend's place, he popped this one in after we watched Battle Angel. These were the first two anime I had ever seen and thus began my interest in anime.

Hmm...I think '94 or '95. It was actually the first anime that I've ever seen. I remember ordering it from a mail catalog.

I was 11 and I was really starting to get into anime.

So I bought it thinking of Gundam Wing in mind but it warped my mind. Now I am crazy and I hate Gundam SEED....

thanks Akira for giving the psychatrist a way to blame my problems on the gorey anime I watched if I ever went insane. :) Jk.... but then agian... You don't know me.
