Being a fan of Ghost in the shell, I decided to check out Stand Alone Complex. I watched the first episode and the beginning was cool...but it seemed kinda boring. Before I make my decision could someone fill me in? Is the entire series like this?
What I mean when I say boring; most of the episode people were just talking, not much action. I guess I'm the kind of guy that likes guns, blood and guts non-stop. Although I am also an FMA enthusiast and that show keeps my attention everytime.

If you're strictly an action fan, I'd keep away. I think there's way more talking and ruminating about politics, technology, and post-modern philosophies then there is straight up brawls and gunfights, though the show has that too. There are a few episodes with a good chunk of violence though. Personally, I like the show.

Maybe I'll watch a few more episodes of it, I'm not sure. My friend likes it alot and he's basically an action guy too.

It's a quite interesting show. But if you hate talking then you will hate one episode where all that is happening for an entire episode is a group of people sit around a table and talk theories. I like the show but I can see how some may find it boring. There is a lot of talking in some episodes.

I like the series quite alot, there's a lot of political/conspiracy psycho-babble that is very prevalent in the manga, so it can be VERY slow in places.., if you're expecting a non-stop action fest you're gonna be bored by the series I'm afraid...,

Hey all,
have you seen the ending to SAC 1st Gig? It's a real...... won't spoil it. But 2nd Gig is shaping up to be really cool, too. & right off the bat they start off w/ a DEEP and subtle sub-plot w/ some dude named Godo or Go something. He's a real..... I'll let you deicde.
Mokoto is really a cool chic. The rest of the gang just help to round out her mssing personality. What do you think? hee, hee. :)
I really liked 1st GIG (though it's really not called that). I liked the several plots that ran along side the primary one. And the Laughing man - they really pulled some stuff of of the hat w/ the JD Salinger quote to mascarade with. Awesome planning on their part.
Plus the grapichs are just great for a normal TV series Anime.

I feel bad for the sniper character. They imply that he's really great. But the one time he ever gets to fire his gun in a real combat scenario is against that super tank that has a bunch of ways of deflecting or avoiding his shots.

Ya, I agree. The sniper ( I think his name is Saito ) does got anyother daybue when they storm an Oil Platform to find some guy who's gone nutts and killed his co-workers. He was some special ops guy looking for some "girl" who was the 1st cyber-brain child. do you remember that episode?
Yeah, the primary players are Motoco, Bato, and Togasha, the Iskawa, Borm and then Saito & Paz. "The Ape" get's his fair share for sure.
Have you seen the final ep in GiTS 1: SAC?

Dont forget the tachikomas!
So far I've found SAC pretty good and a good series to finish collecting. The story with the whole laughing man is pretty interesting. Also the episode where there is that discussion all about the history of the laughing man and his sudden reappearance was interesting and different.

the 2nd Gig is really good too. But they get in deep quick! with another plot w/ Gordo, Gorbae, Gor something. He's a real spider pulling strings and somehow he's got Section 9 under his thumb. That I'd like to see/understand how he did it.
How'd you like the ending of the 1st Gig? Man, I almost had a heart attack the 1st time I saw it. It was just wrong! Just wrong.

I really like this series and I a finding the second series more intriguing. Yeah, some episodes have alot of talking..which doesn't bother me at all. But there is plenty of action too..and it's great action.

I want to know more about Imperial America, the name implies a loss of freedom but the "father" of the tachikomas wanted to defect to the empire saying that he wanted to go to a country that would respect his rights.

2nd gig just ended it's run on tv here. didn't much care for the series. i was pretty bored with the it, hoping for an ending that would somehow save my interest in the title, and instead they took too predictable a path and killed off any hope i had that it wouldn't suck.
i think one of my bigger stumbling blocks was that in the end of every stand alone story and even the entire main plot, no one really cared about the outcome after it was done with. so of course, why should i? the series is more like "just another day in the life of section 9".
