What is well now a good seven years after I first started watching the anime I finally got my hands on the final volume of Kare Kano manga newly released this month.
I must say the whole Kare Kano experience was an interesting one. I was first exposed to the anime which I loved dearly. Then I read the manga which showed me that Gainax's adaption was so close to the original that it was just lazy. Ultimately reading the manga really dulled my enthusiasm for the anime seeing how little it bought to the manga other than a great soundtrack :p
Continuing on with the manga I found myself getting increasingly frustrated with the veering off the main plot and when it finally returned is was all Arima. Only towards the very end did the story briefly bring back Yukino as the focus but it would only be another volume later it would all be over.
Still as for that last volume Tsuda Masami plays a rediculously cruel joke in the final chapter, shame on you Tsuda! :p Certainly had me fooled! The 'everyone gets married' mentality of pairing up all the ancillary characters irked me no end but to see everyone together in the end well even I was somewhat lenient on the shameless pandering :D
All in all KK is probably my favourite choice for romance themed manga/anime and now that is over I'm not sure what to do now... time to start another manga series I guess.
