I finished the first disc, episodes 1-3. The problem with many anime series is that they take too long to really get started. The first half dozen episodes are a real bore, and by the time something really interesting starts you have lost all interest. Not so with Hellsing! I got hooked the moment Arucard turns Seras Victoria into a vampire at the end of episode 1.
Seras actually seems to be the most interesting character in the show. Although those in character design seem to have gone overboard with her breast size. It looks a bit too unnatual.
I watched each episode twice -- once in English and once in Japanese with subtitles. I like the voices in the English dub better, but the subtitles contain little nuances that are not in the English version. For example, in Japanese those of the Hellsing organization also refer to themselves as the "Royal Order of Religious Knights." That term is not used in the English dub.
Do you realize that Arucard spelled backwards is Dracura? Is that how they pronounce Dracula in Japanese?
Also, is Sir Integra gay? She seems awfully butch to me.

I thought it was 'Alucard,' but oh well. Hellsing did have a very great opening to it and gave some nice insights into what it means to truly be human.
Also the bloody rampages were sweet, but that was a given.
Throughout the series, they had plenty of time to elaborate on the whole "what it is to be a human/vampire" thing, but didn't go the whole 9 yards. I felt the whole thing was hurried when it could have gone more indepth.

It's the whole Japanese language doesn't have L sounds thus they use R sound thing.
As for Integra, not a lesbian, I assume she puts on that personality so others don't perceive her as weak and not someone strong enough to run the Hellsing Organization.
I have to side with Nokari, I wasn't terribly satisfied with the series in the end.

Even the English dub has him as Arucard. In the credits the character is called Arucard.
He really has a holier-than-thou attitude, doesn't he? That's kind of odd for a vampire.
And does the size of his gun compensate for. . . . Naw, let's not go there!

I think that Hellsing is satisfying. While it could have better story wise it is a very enjoyable show. I'm reading the Manga at the moment and it is really good. But I don't think that they could have squashed the Manga into 13 episodes. So they had to go in the direction they did.

Well, I now have discs 2 and 3. Disc 2 I will watch tonight and maybe finish it tomorrow. Disc 3 I will start on Monday.

Well... Hellsing OVA will hopefully correct all that.

I'm up to episode 8, and so far I like what I've seen. Though there are a few continuity problems. I will start a seperate thread on that.

Having just finished the series, I can agree with this statement. Although if they made it longer than 13 episodes, they may have run the risk of being repetitive. For a while it looked like they were trying to figure out new ways to kill and revive Arucard. The series ended when it should have.
Overall, I liked it.

I thought the ending really lacked, but overall it was a good series. The first disc was a little slow, but it good really good after until the ending.
