I guess this forum is for the second series. But just to comment on disc 1 of the first series, it really is tough to get through.

Disc 1 contains only 2 episodes, but episode 1 is twice as long. It begins with a dull 7 minute narration, and then a three minute opening credit sequence. So 10 minutes go by before you get anywhere near anything resembling a story. The only interesting thing that happens on disc 1 is when Kris gets naked and dances in front of her roommates.

Does this thing get any better?

Battles Athletes is pretty much Battle Athletes Victory lite. Some characters are a bit different - Akari in particular is a lot more confident in the original.

I'd barely call it a series though - it only ran for 6 episodes. I'm guessing it was testing to waters with regards to making the longer version. I thought it was decent, but not as good as Victory.

Maybe so. Disc 2 just arrived from Netflix. I will probably also look at disc 3. But if nothing interesting happens, besides the cheap thrills, I'm taking Battle Athletes Victory off my list.

I'd have gone straight to watching Battle Athletes Victory myself. Don't judge Victory based on the "prototype" series.

I generally prefer a darker, more adult oriented anime. Battle Athletes, despite the nudity, is hardly adult oriented. In that regard is Battle Athletes Victory any different?

I made similar postings on another forum. So far only one person responded, and he indicated that Battle Athletes Victory was somewhat forgetable.

SPOILER (Highlight to read): I found the scene where Anna finds out he's a boy somewhat idiotic. Couldn't he figure out he was different the first time he say Kris naked?

Darkness in BAV? Not completely no, but so rare you might as well say no. It's a comedy with action for the most part.

So I figured. Oh, well. I felt that BAV would not be my taste. I may give it a look in the future after I have seen other animes I want to see.
