I found this interesting 3 series documentary which shows behind the scenes footage of the making of Princess Mononoke over 2 yrs: 1st part is at

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi3LRn7EKx8

The subtitles are a bit ------ and read like broken English, but it's understandable.

I haven't seen all of it yet, but it's interesting to see how Miyazaki develops the ideas behind Princess Mononoke, and what inspirations he used. For example, the clothing of the girls from the Emishi tribe were based on the dresses women wear in Bhutan, the land of bloody Gross National Happiness. Also, I'm surprised at how short the singer of the ending song, Yoshikazu Mera, is - Miyazaki's a bit of a dwarf himself, but compared to Mera (see series 2, ep. 13), he's like a freaking colossus! Mera must have a genetic disorder.

Anyone else with thoughts or comments on this documentary?

Seen all the videos now - good stuff; you get glimpses of Miyazaki's philosophy and the way Studio Ghibli works. Like how Miyazaki moans about people mistaking individuality with selfishness and how he got pissed when one of his artists was involved in a motorcycle accident and couldn't come to work (!).

Anyone else seen them yet?
