It may look like I just typed a bunch of random characters into the subject but this is actually the name of the anime series. From the people who brought us Lain I now present...

I haven't seen it yet but it's just moved up in my list of stuff I have to get. The story is set in Japan shortly after first contact has been made with an alien race. It centers around two girls, one an alien and one a japanese human. As far as I can tell it's basically about their daily life and friendship. It kind of reminds me of an anime version of Alien Nation. Anyways, if anyone has seen this please provide me with more information. Thanks.

A few Lain fans i know hate NieA_7 with a passion and call Yoshitoshi Abe a sellout for being a part of it. But NieA was almost entirely Abe's idea, so it's a better representation of what he's about, even if it is the "anti-Lain." I didn't really care for Lain too awful much, so my opinion might not be too popular ^^;
Anyway, it's a comedy/drama without too much of a story. It gets categorized as "sci-fi," but the occasional SF elements seem to be more of a plot device for comedic value than anything. More warm, fuzzy moments than a first date, though.
Mayuko (the hypercute dark-haired girl) is a shy, poor student trying to keep her life together after her father died, and ends up rooming with NieA, an alien girl with an ego and a huge appetite. The show is about how the two deal with rooming together. There are some side characters to keep it interesting, but for the most part, the show is about eating dinner, small talk, running late for work, and other everyday things. Really subtle, but memorable because of the character interactions. Perfect if you live in a dorm with no money and a roommate who eats all your food, too ^__^
The only problem i had with the show was getting used to the art.. There are a lot of the usual comic anime deformations, like when NieA starts screaming and so on, and it doesn't mix with the drawing style at all. Really awkward, but not entirely horrible after a while.
While it was airing, all 13 episodes were webcast at http://www.nieaunder7.net, and i think they're still archived there somewhere. It'll give a better idea of what it's about, at least. It's not licensed yet, but it's just a matter of when Pioneer gets to it. I'm pretty sure a couple groups are fansubbing it, but i haven't really been paying attention.

AMOTokyo described it as: no action - just relax.
I liked "My Neighbours The Yamadas", and one of my favourite Eva characters was Hikari, so I think I like the sound of NieA Under 7.
