Tenchi Muyo!!!!!

I finally get to do it. A thread on good old Tenchi.

Firstly i would like to ask that we all refrain from discussing who we believe he should marry!!!

Secondly, who here has actually seen Tenchi Muyo OAV?

Thirdly, who here has ead any of the manga?

I have seen all of the OAV and read all seven volumes of the manga (im not sure if there is any more)

I've read a bit of the manga.
I've seen OAVs 1, 10, and 12.
I've seen TV eps 1-6 (dubbed) :(
I'd buy the OAV series, but I like Slayers more
and need to buy the Next series for that :)

Dubbed. Hm. That's probably very similar to what I'll see on CN.

Was it good? The dubs?

The dubbing is done quite well. Though, as some might know, I really prefer subbed anime over dubbed. But, Washu's voice does get kinda annoying (which I really hate, since she's my fave character in Tenchi). Oh, and who knows how (or if) CN will have Tenchi's father cut out, for a few obvious reasons.

Granpa is very amusing (even more so in the manga) (so is father) (both are perverts)
how will it be on tv
afterall the OAV every ep is 30mins long, except the last one which is 40 mins long.

There will some major hacking, i mean editing.

This series was something i was too impressed with until about the 3rd ep (much the same as El-Hazard)

unfortunaly ive only seen it dubbed (dieing to see it subbed though)

Yosho is Granpa's name. um the fathers name.

Thanks for the name, ATh. Anyways, I'm not sure which manga I've read. I believe that it was from the beginning of the series up to when Kagato shows up, but I don't really remember well. (I believe it was 2 or 3 chapters)
I hope they show the oav series too though, since the TV series wasn't animated as well (of course) and had a few weird stories.

Well i got the Manga all in graphic novels.

and im sure that the manga starts just after Kagato has been defeated, though a new guy pretty much the same shows up.

with Ryoko's daughter Minagi (of course Ryoko did not even know she had a duaghter, but i guess this is Tenchi so its all explainable in the end)

Im yet to see any of the Tenchi tv, but ive heard its geared to a much youngr audience, who would never even know that there was an OAV.

(i have seent he first 2 eps of Pretty sami. not too good, but funny enough to watch it once)

Well
Aeka does get kidnapped by this guy (i dont remember his name) any how he is from Juri himself. Puts her in that bubble thing.

As much as i like that story, it is very similar to the Kagato one, so it would be easy to mix the two.

Vol 7 has a few good little ones in it (as well as the first movie, which is done rather well)

Perhaps then. I don't know, I'll try finding the manga again (if possible). Actually, once I'm done getting Slayers Next and Try, I was planning to buy the Tenchi OAV series (unless Berserk has gotten released by then).

Oh, they've already offically said that they are going to hack and slash them to shreds (O.K., well, they said "edit them heavily", but that's what it is to me).

Tenchi Universe will come first, after that, they'll show Tenchi in Tokyo, then last, and the one that I don't want to watch at all(more on that in a minute) is the Tenchi O.A.V.

Oh boy, you think Card Captor Sakura was butchered.... anyone who has seen even one episode of Tenchi O.A.V. should know, this is a type of show that should not come to CN.
Why exactly and what are they going to edit, you ask?

1)Too much nudity
a)A bunch of bathhouse scenes where everyone's naked (duh)
goodbye to these... even if there's some conversation in some of them that you need to know for the series to make some sense....
b)Ryoko..... she's practally always naked! The only way I suppose that they could competely cut this out, and still have the series make sense, it to do some major (and I mean major) photo retouching. I'm talking Photoshop here.... but somehow, I can't see then spending that much money, so I bet after a while, they'll just cut them out, and let the show make no sense.

2)Some of the shows are 45 min long (and keep in mine this is a O.V.A. so no commercials.....) (oh yeah, and CN and the people who are dubbing it said this themselves.....) and each of those are still going to be "cut" (hah) into a regular 30 min episode! What????????? Now, keep in mind, that when they come to CN, they'll have commercials, so take this out, and you have what, about 25 min of air time???? How in the hell are you going to cut a 45 min show into 25 min????? @_@.... god help us all......

I think I smell the queen breed of bad dubbing coming along.... O_o....

Well, despite the bad dubbing, I'm going to watch it anyway. Who knows, if I like it enough, I might go out and get the videos. I prefer to think of it as a 'sample' than as the actual thing.

I'm sure CN will have bushes, or something badly drawn in to cover up the nudity in necessary scenes. Heck, they did it to cover up Gohan's butt in dbz. So they'll probably do it in Tenchi, just a lot more.

Heheh, the bushes get half of the screentime in each episode. Oh well ^_^;;, as long as Sasami and Washu remain intact, we can all rejoice (at least, I can)

Hell i even like Tenchi so most people might disregard my opinions.

The characters of Tenchi can be so versitle, both serious and humourous. You really should read the Manga, its like a 3rd series (maybe even a 4th as well, the Samuri story goes no for quite a while, but is rather good)

Well, from what ive been hearing the thing now is that he marries them all (including the humaniod Rio-Oh-Ki), but as K'Thardin rants, thats not the best option.

As for Ranma, Shampoo has a lovely voice (in japanese), in fact i have a rather amusing mp3, but i wont go any furthr with this marrage stuff.

I have a feeling i will be left out of this topic if it is Tenchi TV and not OAV.
But i have only ever heard bad of it, so it could be interesting. i could rent the video's myself but i need subb titles or scripts.

Oh, and from what I heard. Well, that is. . . When I was at AnimePlus (store I buy anime from occasionally), I asked about the Tenchi tapes, and they said that the OAV series was really good, but they 'heard too many thing about the tv series,' and said it'd probably be best not to buy. Oh well, I'm gonna get to see the tv series on tv, so I guess I'll buy the series if I believe it to be good enough.
Oh, and I might as well. You can also buy Ranma 1/2 in manga form (www.viz.com is the company releasing the manga and vhs, dvd).

Come to think of it i did not look. i might go back soon and have a much more thourough look. From what i saw they mainly stocked things which no body owns the rights to distribute here in australia, thus the cheap prices for renting ect.

Finally you reading a manga with Kagato may not be too far fetched as i thought. i have seen something similar on a website. I have also heard that there are more than i have, but i cant seem to find any reliable info.

BAH! people cartoon network does not do the editing! the company that produced tenchi does the editing, in this case pioneer. Funimation did the editing for dragonball z , and well funimation just sucks. Anyways tenchi airs during primetime, so they probably will cut certain scenes, pioneer woulnt shame our eyes with digital bushes.

Well my fears about the long awaited bath scene in Tenchi were realized. DIGITAL BATHING SUITS! Though it kind of peeved me , the editing job wasn't as sloppy as funimation's on the first and second seasons of DBZ. The bathing suits werent jumping around everywhere. Ah well I can always go get the uncut sub, which I am planning to do -_^ dont get me wrong, the dub is great, but I would rather see the original in raw jap and completely uncut
