OK...I'm sick of the 'who killed Kaji' discussion, so here is a new one. The death or Dr.Akagi Naoko: Suicide or Murder?

I have not yet come to a conclusion...but there seems to be evidence both ways. The child Rei tells Dr.Akagi Naoko that Gendo no longer has any use for her since she had finished work on the Magi supercomputers and she strangled Rei in her rage. This could be seen as proof that Gendo had her killed. But also, Dr.Akagi Naoko could have killed herself after finding out what Gendo really thought of her and out of guilt from killing Rei.

One thing we do know is how she died...jumped of the control bridge and landed on one of the Magi computers........

I would be interested to know what others think....

I take it no one has an opinion on this topic???

You know what's funny? The non-eva, and even non-anime forums are getting more posts than the eva and anime forums.... am I the only one who thinks that's funny?

Yes
this is a good question, one not asked before
(and yes it is getting a bit rediculous with the nonsense posting in all forums)

I can only give my opinion. That she threw herself from the control centre, killing herself.

My reason for this, is that in an over emotional state she would have rather died than to to actually hear that Gendo did not love her.

Hearing it from Rei 1 is not absolute, but she instinctivly knew that it might be true, (in sure that Gendo would have treated chibi Rei very well). Rather than facing Gendo and finding out the truth (which i believe she already knew in her heart) she killed herself believing that Gendo still loves her.

That my opinion, a bit conveluted, but ...

Did you take into account that killing a 3-5 year old adorable girl might have overwhelmed her with quilt!

Especialy when her reason/excuse is "but she called me useless"

i can't say i had ever even considered that she did anything other than kill herself. she had faced the same thing as ritsuko later (finding gendo's real feelings about her), which caused the downfall of her daughter. she had never seemed at all content and when she found out that gendo was just using her, what little she had fell down too.
she knew rei was "replacable", as she was. she had little care for rei's life and i doubt her own either.
i agree with ath in that i feel she already knew that gendo didn't really care for her. in the same ep we see her kissing gendo after just saying she can accept that he really cares (only?) for yui.

I don't think she knew Rei was replaceable, because, remember she didn't seem to know who Rei was when Gendo brought her to the NERV HQ...

Akagi "Did you bring your child again...what, I could have sworn you had a boy"

Gendo "Oh, this isn't Shinji. Rei is the daughter of an aquantance. I'm just looking after her for a while"

Then later, Akagi realises that Rei resembles Yui, but she still couldn't have know exactly what Rei was...Gendo wouldn't have spread such information around.

And, as I said at the beginning, I don't have an opinion, I just thought it was an interesting idea and worthy a little discussion instead of going back to the old 'whoi killed Kaji' routine

"you're just as replacable as me, you know that"
<or something like that> as she strangles her

Hmmmm...That's right...

Something more to think about

Well that actually makes evidence for your first argument, that Naoko did not know Rei.

Naoko built the Magi, with out her it would not work, she is not replaceable

of course she failed to see her own duaghter as her replacement, something which did not escape Gendo..

yep...Nakagi built the hardware, and Ritsuko wrote the programming....

dont you think that what she meant by "replacable" was the fact that Gendou had many affairs? of course it is also possible that what she meant was the cloning thing....

Yea she couldnt have know Rei was replacable .. .i still stick by my argument

just saw that part and the way i see it, it was murder, here's why:

we all know tht Rei does what Gendou orders right? so the way i see it, Gendou, knowing what would happen, ordered chibi Rei to tell Naoko that she was a hag. Naoko, falling for the trap, strangled Rei saying "you're just as replacable as me, you know that" (perhaps she was already aware that Rei was Yui's clone, after all, man cloned Adam so it was possible that Gendou actually cloned Yui). She then realized what she said, and knowing that she wouldnt get away with murder, took her own life - thus Gendou got away.

perhaps another way to derive an answer is by taking into considerations the many parallelisms (or are these coincidences? )contained in eva - the sins of the mother are repeated by the daughter and suffer the same consequences.

i am sorry for my stupidity everyone i have seen more than a few episodes at my friends house, i am going to buy them, but because of my lack of $$ flow, i have no way of geting the videos or dvds, but i do know the basics to the series, but that is the reason for my lack of participation in the posts.
