yeah - but one thing i noticed with the typical anime bad guy is they are taller/bigger and uglier... although in some cases, when the bad guy is not uglier, he becomes an ally

or it could be they portray the hero as the shorter one...

The bigger they are, the harder they fall, right?

Kenshin has both experience and cleverness on his side. Sometimes that's more than brawn can offer.

... I have found that there is a tendancy for visual typecasting to take place within anime. The general rule being, the closer the individual to the human ideal (real world expectations), the more likely that character will be good, or potentially good. Now this "rule" is by no means absolute, but I believe that it applies in more cases that not.

I am thinking, that this is done, to facilitate viewer association and alignment. Oh, and by human ideal, I mean, that the individual is of average height, good athletic build, and reasonably attractive... with disproportionate strengh and or powers.

To this end, I think that anime is somewhat more traditional in it's usage of the associations of goodness and beauty in relation to our collective sense of human aesthetics.

Take For Instance, Fuji, the undisputed GIANT in Ruronin Kenshin, is not even in the Top three most powerful warriors of the Ten Swords (Anji, Usui and Soujiro), who are one twentieth of his ten-stories tall height. And Soujiro, barely taller Kenshin (163cm VS 157cm) is the mightiest (not to mention fastest) swordsman that has ever lived. This really goes to show that size does NOT matter in the world of Ruronin Kenshin.

Well, here's a thought. MAybe the reason that short Anime Characters like Freeza and Kenshin can pound the snerd out of tall people is because their hearts do not need to work as hard to pump blood to the rest of their bodies, and hence allowing them to conserve more energy when they actually do need to fight. Its a stretch (pun intended), but a plausible theory, I suppose.

hmmm intresting point, but then they wouldnt have much body mass compared to the big ppl, but then kenshin and freeza were just all muscle i think
