This is truly one of the best anime series that i have ever seen.It does have alot of comedy and there are 6 DVDs total.
here is a little review i wrote for you:
Director Watanabe Shin'ichiro, screenwriter Nobumoto Keiko, and composer Kanno Yoko wowed the anime world in 1994 with the technically remarkable Macross Plus OVA series, and in 1998, they re-teamed with Sunrise (the studio responsible for Gundam and Escaflowne) to create one of the most entertaining and impressive anime TV series ever, Cowboy Bebop. Bebop is a wild anagram of different genres, ranging from SF to parody to Hong Kong-style action; indeed, one eyecatch even proclaims it the work that is itself a new genre. It does this with the help of an incredibly amicable set of characters, unheard of visual panache for a TV series (the quality of the animation rivals most OVAs and feature films), tight writing, and a bestselling soundtrack by fan-favorite Kanno.
Bebop is largely episodic in nature, meaning most of the episodes can be watched in any order (which is a good thing, considering that many of the episodes weren't shown during the initial broadcast run due to violent or sexually suggestive content). There is a central plot running throughout the series, however, so it is suggested that the episodes not be watched out of sequence. Some episodes are extremely serious, such as those dealing with Spike's past and his search for the woman who betrayed him, while others are hysterically funny, like the Alien parody "Toys in the Attic" or the contraband mushroom episode "Mushroom Samba." Some are simply amazing from a technical standpoint, such as the "Pierrot le Fou" episode, which is equal parts Jack the Ripper and Batman homage. Amazingly, nothing ever stretches disbelief to the point of snapping; Bebop's world is expertly conceived and realized, and everything that happens seems all-too-plausible.
see you space cowboys.

Some things I liked about Cowboy Bebop compared to other anime series is that the music is just amazing and it isn't the crappy j-pop that you see in most anime series. Also, the characters are older and more mature (with the exception of Ed) so this makes for more serious storylines. Another thing I enjoyed was that there wasn't any ecchi or hentai themes in it. The episodes stuck to a main plot and didn't have a lot of stupid sexual stuff in them.
But the main reasons I liked Cowboy Bebop was that is was so packed full of the best aspects of an anime series. Great music, amazing action, wonderful and endearing characters, and beautiful animation. What more could you want from an anime series?
