Guy wants to get into Tokyo-U to meet with a girl he made a promise with many many years ago. the thing is he doesnt remember wat her name was or how she would look after that many years. Of course he fail miserably to get in and so he ends up working at an all female dorm/hotspring that his grandma runs and becomes manager. the rest is about him trying to get into Tokyo-U and the beatings he gets from the occupants of the dorm.

Thanks for the info Yumiko! Would you recommend it to an Eva/Trigun/Nadesico lovin' Baka such as myself? :)

i personally hated the series. sorry for everyone who loves it. but i personally do not like a series where one guy seems to be surrounded by beautiful talented women who seem to be infatuated with him. i like it they way shoujo mangas/anime have it where the girl gets to pick outta an assortment of cool bishounens. but thats just my opinion.

if u want slapstick humour, with pretty pictures, this anime is for you. if you actually want a meaningful storyline of some sort, this anime sucks.

What would you recommend instead, along the same lines (non-mecha, real situations, no monsters.... don't tell anyone on the Eva forum :))

the all time best done shoujo anime in my opinion has to be Kareshi Kanojo no Jijyo. its based on an ongoing manga series in Lala Magazine. Boy, Girl meet in Highschool, first are rivals, then become friends, then become lovers. Very touching. Quite realistic in the situations, but the animation and the effects they use are done so effectively. There are really funny parts in the story, but some rather disturbing parts too. All and all, one of my faves.

another real-life drama that i would recommend would by Hana Yori Dango. again, its shoujo, and its based on an ongoing manga that has reached 27 vols. yay! I personally love this story. Its not too realistic, but its just so sappy sometimes. its like a good soap opera...[i know, oxymoron]. Its just the way i like it. a girl who gets to pick from an assortment of guys who like her.

Both of the animes i have listed have a strong minded female lead role, unlike the usual wishy-washy females in shoujo anime. KareKano is 26 epsiodes long, and HYD is 51 episodes + movie long. That's only wat i suggest. if u like Eva, then i would go for KareKano since Gainax also made the series and Anno Hidaki directed it. HYD is good in my opinion, but its not quite as universally liked among the masses.

I think i have rambled on long enough. People feel free to flame me for hating Love Hina =P

Yumiko...you are a total shoujou animé critic aren't you? You have seen all the shoujou animés I have seen and I am a guy who loves Shoujou. I personally loved Love Hina, I can't ruin it but I hated to see the "dude" get hit and say sorry for nothing. But everything else was alright and cool. Oh and by the way, have you seen the Christmas special?

i'm just a fan. big fan of the shoujo genre. both mangas and anime. but i prefer manga better.

So you thinks its cool when theres a bunch of pretty guys, but a bunch of pretty girls is bad? Seems like your biased saying only girls should be satisfied in the way of the eye^^;.

Reguardless of the number of slams against love hina. Its way up there on my list.
A) Have you seen the love hina christmas special that came out christmas day? SOOOOO awesome. Excellent ending to the series.

B) The series had some slowness and didnt follow the manga perfectly, but who cares? Its a very good show that turns out marvelous at the end of episode 24 and the christmas special just leaves you thirsty for more. I cant wait for the dvd in march that has the two never seen before ovas. .......

C) The animation is awesome. The music is awesome. Its catches your eye, ears, and heart. Its very well done in my opinion and worth the viewing time. I was watching these as they came out in japan. One day after it aired in japan i got to see it. I was anxiously awaiting the new episode every week. VERY good series :D

Yeah, i read some of the manga too.. gaah! I like the manga a lot more than the anime.. maybe its because i prefer manga^^; reading seems to be so mind absorbing^^ i almost always got my deepest thoughts while reading, though deep thoughts are not Love Hina's case^^;.

the plain fact that Love Hina is not a shoujo gives way to my being biased. i admit i am biased. i like my shoujos. but thats just an opinion. not like i'm forcing any of it on you. the manga was very shounen. bleh :P didn't care for the manga either.

i would have to admit the art is cool. the music is a little high pitched and perky for my tastes, but hey, watever floats your boat. if you like it, you like it. yes. i was in tokyo when the christmas special aired. i still dont care for love hina.

Kareshi Kanojo no Jijyo is great! I would definitely recommend this to an Eva fan looking for a non-mecha, shoujo anime too. There's a lot of character development. However, for someone who has to have a series with a lot of action and/or violence in it, I wouldn't recommend it. I personally enjoyed it a lot though.

Nah, flaming people because they don't like something that you like is silly (although teasing them a little sometimes is fun, heh heh heh!) Having different opinions is what make people interesting. :) I've only seen the first 4 episodes of Love Hina but I like it so far...
