Just occured to me.... where did Nerv get a hold of a 20 story high lance?

if you recall gendou and his assistant(dong yue sensei-sorry in chinese cldn't recall the kanji for it.)they made a trip to south pole whilst nerv was fighting one of the angels... it was then they recovered the lance. the manga shows it more in depth.
yeh i knew that much....
but how did the eskimo's build it then? :lol:

Yes...I'm pretty sure there is a scene where you see an aircraft carrier with the lance on the runway, covered in crusty stuff as you would expect after years in the ocean

Yes, I saw it in that episode too, but I have another question about the lance. In either episode 23 or 24 (I think) Gendo is talking to Yui/Eva 01. He says something about how since they don't have the lance and cannot retrieve it they may not make their dreams a reality. What exactly does he mean by that?

Well...the Lance is required to initiate Third Impact (see EoE) which is what Gendo plans to do so he can be reunited with his wife...
If Gendou went to retrieve the lance in ep12, it only means that before ep12 lilith did not have the lance on her - thus her body was whole right? because in the episode when Rei takes it out of her she grows back her lower body. So the question is what happened to that lower portion of her body? could it have been used on unit 01? or did they intentionally cut it off so that there would be a constant supply of LCL?
another theory: lets assume Lilith didnt have that lower portion of her body before ep12, then Gendou goes to retrieve the lance in antarctica, orders Rei to stick it on Lilith, and then when it is taken out of Lilith to defeat the 14th angel, Lilith grows her legs back - can we say that the lance has some healing propeties?
This is what I think...Lillith was regenerating, and was all complete except for the legs when the lance was stuck in her. This stopped the regeneration, hence the lack of legs...when the lance was removed, regenration continued and the legs grew back
but why was she regenerating in the first place? what happened to her lower portion?
so the lance came from 'nowhere' and can initaiate 3rd impact ...
now if gendo want to be reunited with his wife .. he need to goto heaven (whereever) why dosnt he just kill himslef and spare the world?
maybe he has the largest portion of the 18th angel in him?
go to heaven? Gendou? - after all that he's done? what makes you think so?
besides, Yui's soul is in unit 01, dont you think that if Gendou killed himself with Yui in unit 01 then he would have no chance of reuniting with her now would he?
in the biggining of Death and Rebirth, the scene before 2nd impact, a someone says that the Lance of Longiness just arrived from the DEAD SEA - now take note, when Gendou and Fuyutsuki go to the antarctic to retrieve the lance, it is mentioned that the antarctic has become the real dead sea (or something like that). However in that scene of D&R, second impanct has not yet occured, thus the ice caps have not melted and antarctica did not yet become the dead sea as known in 2015.

After seeing D&R I had a good think about this subject, heres what I think happened, The lance was located with the scrolls near Galilea, after they discovered Adam frozen at the south pole and decipheired the scrolls Dr Katsuragi attempted to cause Third Impact (well second impact but with the results of third) This in turn failed becasue there was no one there to control it (ie. Rei) An outrageous thought occured to me that they might have tried using Misato because that could explain her injury and inability to speak afterwards. So when the lance was inserted into Adam it caused an unstable reaction that hence caused the destruction of Antartica and death and destruction, the lance was lost into the sea. or mankind was not yet ready for the power of gods.

exactly my point... as for your your theory, well, that's debatable
well that's my theory, bar the original location of the lance, which i have no idea about. your explanation makes sense i suppose....
The lance was orgianlly create 2000 years ago from Lillith cells, it was used to kill christ. Keel is the wandereing dew and as such wanders the earth for eternity and has probably possessed the lance the whole time. At first the lance was as big as a normal lance. However for some reason it grew, some suggest that sicne it was first cloned it was young and as such was small, and as the years passed it got bigger and bigger just Angels do. It then was shipped from the to the Geofront and used on Lillith BEFORE 2nd Impact.... her legs were cut off and the LCL dripped out of her filled up the pool.... then the Lance was taken to Antrarica... Lilliths Legs had grown back... the lance was then used on Adam... then in Ep six gendou retreived it from Antarica..... then used it on Lillith and cut her legs off again.... so that the LCL would run again. Then Rei removed it and her legs grew back again!!!!

Well, I don't know how much of that I agree with. Particularly having the Lance cloned from Lillith's cells. In Historical context, the lance was used by a Roman soldier called Longinus (hence the name), who used the lance to stab Christ to make sure he was dead.
Now, I would have thought that an ordinary Roman soldier would have an ordinary roman lance, not a special lance made from the cells of lillith.
As for Keel being the wandering Jew . . . That's debatable. It all depends on how much you believe, I guess. :(

Who says the storys were true... over time storys become changed, like Chinese whispers.... but yeah it is stretching it a bit with Christ, but that is very plausible in the EVA world.
And the Lance in my line of thought is definetly cloned from Lillith.
it is said that the wondering Jew was punished by God to walk the earth until the end of the world for hitting (?) Christ.
however, i have to question the lance's true origin - in the first place, where did mankind get the knowledge, no - the technology to clone? - genetic engineering may have been practiced ever since man realized that it was better to keep alive the animals which were more productive - but cloning?
although i have to agree with you on the part where stories change over time - hehe... looks like we should all take up Hermenutics class to understand eva! :lol:
Who knows who cares... the Lance is a mystical weapon which is definetly organic.... look at it when it blows up it bubbles like all other oragnic tissue in EVA... it is something if not made by man, then made by God.... it doesnt really matter... It was used on Christ whether it was the thing that killed him or not is not important. For some reason the Lance grew 50 storys tall, or maybe Jesus himself was the size of an EVA... the lance was brought from the Geofront which is the Dead Sea.... to Antartica used on Adam, then brought back to Nerv around 8 episode then was removed to kill the an angel. The brought back to anitiate third impact.
Ur telling me that Lilith was in NERV the whole time stuck to that cross while ppl were ripping the lance out of her then putting it back in again then pulling it out again??

Yeah thats exatly what I am saying... she was very weakend by an Anti-AT field shoved in her.... no other oranism except Lillith can with stand it. It is a force which is so powerful that not even numbers can be used to express it. And one of the laws of mathematics is that All things in nature can be graphed or represented using mathematics. So this anti-atfield is mind boggilingly powerful, it even created a man made siphrothrica. Of course she also had pins in her hands to keep her on the cross.
When she finally reawakend and climbed off the cross, it was due to the merger of her and Adam... then they became the orgianl being they were when they crash landed during 1st Impact. Lillith could also be tired from spawning the Lillum (mankind) at the Black Moon.... whos to say that Lillith has ever left the Geofront anyway?
