Thank god for western distribution of anime and Manga. In eastern countries like Taiwan you would get a prompt homophobic bashing from your mates if you were ever known to even GLANCE at anything like Card Captor Sakura, Utena or even Rayearth. In other words; Eastern Guys in the East CANNOT even KNOW the Shoujo genre, much less enjoy it.
However, it is nice to see in the west Anime is seen as a non-gender-specific hobby. At conventions and casual screenings at Melbourne University I have seen armies of blokes LOVING and even (god forbid) WEARING Sailor Moon and Chicks who DON'T preach your head off about DBZ's violence but instead love it.
So, in short. Western distribution of Anime has given folks like you and me to discover their feminine (or in the case of women, masculine) side with dignity (unless you wear flamboyantly embarrasing Fan T-SHirts out on huge roads like Swanston Street.).
Long live anime.
