Thank god for western distribution of anime and Manga. In eastern countries like Taiwan you would get a prompt homophobic bashing from your mates if you were ever known to even GLANCE at anything like Card Captor Sakura, Utena or even Rayearth. In other words; Eastern Guys in the East CANNOT even KNOW the Shoujo genre, much less enjoy it.

However, it is nice to see in the west Anime is seen as a non-gender-specific hobby. At conventions and casual screenings at Melbourne University I have seen armies of blokes LOVING and even (god forbid) WEARING Sailor Moon and Chicks who DON'T preach your head off about DBZ's violence but instead love it.

So, in short. Western distribution of Anime has given folks like you and me to discover their feminine (or in the case of women, masculine) side with dignity (unless you wear flamboyantly embarrasing Fan T-SHirts out on huge roads like Swanston Street.).

Long live anime.

is that really true?? guys are looked down on and considered homosexual if they watch shoujo in taiwan??
and when you call the East, i hope you are not including japan, where some guys watch/read shoujo anime/manga and nobody really care.

The main benefit of Western Distribution to me is that you can actually buy anime toys without having to order them online and pay outrageous prices.

For instance, I've outlined my problems with the Card Captor Sakura dub "CardCaptors" quite a few times in this forum, but now you can find some nice Sakura toys in chains like K-Mart and Target. I wasn't too impressed with the book of Clow Cards they've come out with (the quality is awful compared to the original Japanese Clow Cards I've seen), but the dolls of Sakura, Li, and Mei Ling are adorable! I got "pink kitty Sakura" she's so kawaii! She comes with her own little stand and wand and everything!

I still hate CardCarptors................but.........now at least I have my pretty dolly! *hugs Pink Kitty Sakura*
