First impressions of Outlaw Star

Ugh, the dub is awful. It annoyed me the entire time I was watching it. I'm considering not watching it anymore and going straight for the subtitled version.

That being said, let me say that the action is definitely fast, and this series looks to have had a serious budget and it shows. Between the fluidity of the animation and the detail of the art, I can only guess that the original Japanese voice actors did a good a job as the animators. It's too bad the dub ruins the entire experience.

One thing I can't stand is the "bullet" scene change. Seems like a cheap cartoon ripoff. The main character also sounds like a generic saturday super hero. And that little kid is so annoying, I wanted to shoot his voice actors upon hearing him speak. No talent here whatsoever.

I bet I'd really enjoy the Japanese, but this is really crappy dubbing. I really can't stand it and it's a shame because I really want to see this series. It looks funny (the jokes are lost in the dub, believe me), with lots of awesome fight scenes and gun battles. No mecha, but hey, I can deal with spaceships with arms.

I can't wait for Mobile Suit Gundam to premiere on Cartoon Network, I can only pray the dub is better than this one.

I've rented the first 2 tapes of the sub and there are some changes...namely the sexual innuendo by Gene, the minor swearing, and the lack of clothing on Melfina.

I really enjoy the series so far, and I haven't gotten to the main story arc yet.

ive only seen the second episode at CN, but still i think it sucks. so im just gonna go and rent the subtitled ones :D

The gunshots are kinda cool. They keep the fast-paced feel of the action scenes intact. I like that they kept the commerical transitions and the ending music and art.

Huh? Why did they cut the part where Hilda bites down on the explosive in her mouth and takes her and the Tao magic user out? I thought that was an awesome scene...

Who, the old man or the little girl? If you blinked you couldn't tell he died cause it seemed(atleast IMO) that they cut out him being blown up, like they did with 99% of deaths in that manner in GW.

The female. After Hilda sets her grappling device on her, she says some heroic stuff to Gene then bites down on some sort of trigger and a big-ass blast goes off. The things everyone saw on TV today were the creepy mask guys that were clinging to the cable with everyone else.

Overall I like Outlaw Star. I have since I first watched it before it was on Cartoon Network. I'm not really going to talk about the CN version though, since they do some editing to it.

As far as the show goes, I've found that I like their blend of mysticism and science fiction. It took some getting used to, but I think it separates it from many other sci-fi shows. I really don't see how people can compare it to Cowboy Bebop. I don't think they are very similar at all. Outlaw Star is more fantastic and Cowboy Bebop is more realistic. Anyways, the animation is well done usually fairly consistent. I remember some future episodes seeming to be a little sloppier, but overall its pretty good.

Its risen to be one of my favorites though I have to agree with everyone else on some of the dub voices. Aisha ClanClan's is grating on the ears. Jim's I can tolerate, and I actually like Gene's voice.

what bullet scene are you guys talkin' about? is it the one where gene fires the #19 but its a "dud"?

i like the series so far, i guess i can deal with the editing on cn. i like how the setting is kinda like final fantasy 7, way the phreak in the phuture, and people still use magic and swords.

the thing i can't stand is how jim just kinda decides to say "gene" every now and then. it could be dead silence and he will decide to break it by saying "gene".

Ive watched some the OLS tapes subtitled and I almost forgot how much I liked the ending! To bad they dont play the intro song :(

I think that the dub for Outlaw Star is ok, not too good, but its not too bad. They left in cuss words and other things, but they changed some things to make them sound dumb. :D

Hey! Nothing is more annoying than relena! The dubbed isn't that bad though. I love Aisha's dubbed voice. And the other VAs dont' bother me.
