Okay as Huma brought up the question again here's what i wrote to my 1000+ subscribers mailing list newsletter 4. Eva Movie release news
Eva Movies - http://www.eva2000.com/movies/
Anime Report - http://www.eva2000.com/news_report/
I have literally received hundreds of emails questions regarding the Eva
movies from around the world. The big question that is on everyone's mind
is when are the Eva movies coming out or where can I get them ?
I will answer the shorter question first. I suggest you wait for the Eva
movies to be released in the official channels and such i.e. Manga
Entertainment etc. Support Evangelion and purchase your copies rather
than from other means.
As to when it's being released. You will be informed on my site at
http://www.eva2000.com/news_report/ and as well as on this mailing list.
I will contact you all at first instance i get any concrete news :) All
the more reason to tell any Eva fans you know to join my mailing list at
http://nge1999.listbot.com
So far what I know.
- Manga Entertainment UK web site http://www.manga.co.uk/index2.html,
lists the Eva movies for release on DVD on Sept 11, 2000
- Madman Australia http://www.madman.com.au/, has reported on their site
that they will be releasing the 7 volume DVD of the Eva 26 episodes by
summer and they will try to get the Eva movies on DVD as well. Madman is
also thinking of purchasing the rights to anime titles under Manga
Entertainment so they can distribute them on DVD in Australia as well and
may be releasing both the NTSC and PAL DVDs in Australia. From what
Madman has said, with Voice licensing rights and stuff their maybe delays
into 2001 :(
I will keep everyone informed here and if anything i said is incorrect or
you know more, please let me know http://www.eva2000.com/contact/ :) Full mailing list archive is here (http://nge1999.listbot.com/cgi-bin/subscriber?Act=view_archive&list_id=nge1999)
I can't wait for the movies to be released....even thought I have allready seen them. You can't have enough Evangelion......
how right you are!
i have both movies and all the episodes on vhs but im still trying to debate with myself if im to get a complete VCD or DVD set - digital is always better y'know plus if you have a laptop, you can always take them with you!

Damn, and i was hoping to get that "Stripping Instrumentality" game. Can anyone lend me a credit card? - i'll wire you the money!

Admin cap on
Okay I understand, but could you refrain from distributing any of Gainax's copyrighted material on this board... Gainax is on crack down mode right now... and i don't want to give them any ammo you understand :)
And if you haven't read in another thread yet, I will actually be inviting reps of anime companies to register and mix and mingle with their fans...
Once all the members have returned and settled down to posting... i will be inviting reps from a few anime companies and such to see if their interested :D

Does anyone know if the dvds from Gainax's website have english subtitles on them? I've got a region free player, and if they do, I'm on em. Anyone know what 8800 yen works out to?
Ko Hakaisha
27-06-00, 05:46 PM
8800 yen works out to approximately $88 US Dollars. I'm not very good with the Australian currency. :\
eva2000
27-06-00, 05:49 PM
well the Aussie dollar = US$0.60 about now ...
Ko Hakaisha
27-06-00, 05:49 PM
Ah, so the lords of the anime are coming down to mingle with the commoners, eh? ^^
Since I'm really not all that great with anime companies ... Gainax made Eva, right? Also, didn't they make GW?
eva2000
27-06-00, 05:51 PM
yes, that's what i hope for and plan :D...
I don't think Gainax made Gundam... yeah i am pretty sure they didn't ...
Ko Hakaisha
27-06-00, 05:54 PM
Oh, okay. Thx. [scratches head in thought]
Ah, I certainly hope they do come. That would be awesome to talk to them and stuff. As long as they weren't all stiff and formal and crud. :)
eva2000
27-06-00, 05:57 PM
well hopefully they aren't...
Ko Hakaisha
27-06-00, 05:59 PM
Yeah.
Hey, if they do come, do you think that they'd make up a name, or do you think they'd use their real name, or what? Just curious about ppl's opinions.
eva2000
27-06-00, 06:00 PM
most likely use their real name... i can't see why they wouldn't
Ko Hakaisha
27-06-00, 06:02 PM
That's what I thought. That's what I hoped.
But they might want to feel what it's like being a fan instead of being a creator. Ya know? ;)
eva2000
27-06-00, 06:05 PM
hehe... maybe ;)
Ko Hakaisha
27-06-00, 06:11 PM
I guess that means that all we hafta do is keep our eye out for newbies that know everything. ;)
ouch, those Dvds from gainax are so bloody expensive.
eva2000
27-06-00, 07:46 PM
as well as behave yourselves ;)
Ko Hakaisha
27-06-00, 08:17 PM
[bows head] Yes, admin.
All anime DVDs are expensive ... at least, the ones I've seen.
The NGE eps 1-4 dvd is $40 CAD locally, but I've seen it at american mail order places for $20US.
I'm getting my aunt to snag me a set of eva vcds from Hong kong to tide me over in the meantime while I wait for the dvd releases here. But she can only find the japanese/cantonese ones and not english subtitles which sucks.
I heard that the subbed DVD's were terrible...The sub titles are poorly done and block out the action. I also heard that the picture quality is not good, worse than the quality of the vhs.. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Yeah I get most of my DVDs in the city which cost me around 50-60 bucks (Zone 1) I spoke to a few PPl about the Gainax ones when I was waiting and they said that unless you speak Japanese and can read it don't touch them, most of them do not have English Subtitles as it is an Asian Region and Europe has its own distributers. So if you want Evangelion do what I do and get them from the US as they are released or pester Madman until they get Vols 2-7 out..
Hmmm I'd say that the Picture Quality is pretty good, Extras are lacking but the Audio and Picture are good, the only annoyance that I have is with Text covering up the Signs and The subtitles are a bit too big
in EoE there are two rather long parts which I cant actually grasp/figure out. the first is the jumbled, screwed -up scene/s while the second is "unanimated"/real-life shot. I was wondering what was the reason behind this or what Anno was actually trying to convey?
__________
unlearn what you have learned
that is the whole point of nge :)
it is an expression of the creator's deepest thoughts feelings.. and is to me what makes nge so good. anno used a original/unique method of expressing himself, that is a bit beyond your average film/production.
as anno said in that rainy day intro:
"I tried to include everything of myself in Neon Genesis Evangelion... It is a production where my only thought was to burn my feelings into film. "
ahhh...ok...
__________
unlearn what you have learned
hehehehe ... well, i tried to explain it :)
heheh dvd's are expensive to make neways....
my friend got some fake dvds from china but they got lost on the boat trip here....

The Manga.co.uk has made another announcement regarding the Eva movies:
"Evangelion The Movies will be released by Manga Video but no date has been fixed yet and yes we will use the same voice actors as in the ADV series..."
I think i can almost guarantee it won't be this year unfortunately - it would take a real miracle for that to happen.

Well, i have a copy ov EoE (vhs) and it is subbed, not that i am going to complain, but does anyone know if they are going to dub it and if so in the orrigional voices.
Yes. Manga does have plans to dub EoE using the original voices though I am hearing that they are having troubles because they are trying to hire the original voice actors independantly of ADV Films.

hi Steve... i wonder why they want to hire them independently from Advfilms ? would it be cheaper ?
Tamachan
23-07-00, 10:49 PM
I'm pretty sure it would be cheaper...put it this way, if I ran an anime company, and a rival anime company wanted something I had, I'd make sure I shafted them for it ;)
Btw, you're bored again Tesai, aren't you *grin* Start compiling a dvd list for me *grin*
At a guess I would say that if they hired them via ADV then ADV would wanna get a slice of the action.
Just a guess though.
On the manga.co.uk website I think it just says that they are having licensing issues but I can't check that as the Manga.co.uk website crashes netscape at Uni.
I also heard a rumour about manga having troubles getting the correct print from japan. forgotten where I heard that one though so I can't check for more details

hi ya tamachan... :wavey:
that suxs how browsers can crash... i am about to take alot at the Manga.co.uk site - geez... when will large companies ever learn that they need to setup the subdomain 'www' for their domain names - a simple cname entry in their dns would do
http://manga.co.uk - doesn't work but http://www.manga.co.uk does
okay here's the news from the Uk site
http://www.manga.co.uk/index2.html
Evangelion The Movies will be released by Manga Video but no date has been fixed yet and yes we will use the same voice actors as in the ADV series... The Fist of the North Star series stopped at episode 7 but Manga are now going to release the rest of the series up to Volume 12..... Ninja Scroll jets its DVD release off the ground very soon and will feature extras from Theatrical trailers to sub and dub versions.... Watch Cannel 4 soon as they are about to show all of the Fist of the North Star series on there 4Later slot. At this stage we do no when they plan to show the series but we will let you know as soon as we hear..... Rayearth is released in July, this is one of three OVAs from the original Japanese TV series and will no doubt be an instant hit will all anime/manga fans. The two remaining episodes will be released in August and September....
one thing with the movies being done by manga would be "death". It is made up mostely of animation from the series. They'd have to re-record the voices for scenes from the series as close as possible to the adv series - which would be hard. or they try to get the license from adv - not going to happen.
i think we would have got the movies dubbed a lot earlier if adv got the rights.

Does anyone here know if it is still possible to buy Evangelion: Rebirth on vhs? I don't want to bother buying a dvd player yet, but I have never been able to see how the series really ended, so... Any info on where to find it if it can still be bought would be appreciated.

I also heard that the actress who played the voice of Asuka didn't like the script and said she wouldn't do it ......
Now, that is a bad thing.... But as long as Gendo has the same voice, I think I would cope....
You can get Death and Rebirth and End of Evangelion from the fansub distro Masumasu:
http://www.nabiki.com/deddy/masumasu/index.html
I just got the following news from AnimeonDVD.com Haven't even had time to put it on my own site. Nothing new - just confirmation of what I have previously said. BTW, I have also heard that rumour about Asuka's voice actress but dunno if it is true or not:
"Eva movies will be anamorphic, delayed until next year
due to contract problems and the fact that Gainax
hasn't sent any of the materials"

hey was the eva hentai movie made by GAINAX or by some truely rabid eva fan??
Yuusuke
06-08-00, 03:56 AM
Well, not that I'm into hentai material or anything (Heh), but anyways. . . The Evangelion hentai movie (if it's the same one I know, about 15minutes) is most definately (at least, hopefully) not made by Gainax.
It's very cheap animation, and really bad looking, I'd really hope it was just some fans (Like the Magic Knight Rayearth hentai *shudder*)

So is eva dvd volume 1 worth getting? I'm hearing alot about poor quality and subtitles that are too big. Also, it was mentioned somewhere that they might re-do it, is there any truth to this?
If the movie (EoE I guess) is going to be released in March 2001 does that mean the whole series will be done then? Since the movie is the end and all...
I'd just rather buy the whole thing at one time, a box set or somethin ya know? hmm... wonder how much they'd charge for the whole set...
*tries to do some math*
*fails miserably*
