View Full Version : Faye & Spike's "relationship"

Now I've only seen up to Session 14, but I assume Spike and Faye don't all of a sudden become lovey-dovey in the second half of the series, so I can comment on their interesting relationship. I like the fact that CB can have a male lead and a female lead without necessarily pushing them together romantically, but I find their non-relationship interesting nontheless.

For example, when Faye is introduced in Session #3, Spike seems to generally like her-not only in the obvious way (didya see the way he looks at her when they play BlackJack at the Casino?!), but he also seems to respect her-he likes her gypsy-schtick and even says "She outwitted me again!" at the end of the episode.

However, once he gets to know Faye a bit, she may as well be a piece of the furniture. He always makes comments to the effect of not caring about her, "when are you going to leave" etc., and while he definitely is more attatched to her than he is willing to admit-why the sudden change?

The obvious answer would be that he realizes that Faye is very different from his idealized vision of women (which he seems to have gotten from his fixation on lost love Julia), but I don't know........it still dosen't explain why the romantic tension between them goes from high in Session #3 to just about 0 from then on out.

Again, I don't think the two of them would have to be together romantically-just that they really are so alike, both loners, both risktakers, etc. One would think that the two of them could understand each other better as friends better than anyone else......even Jet is different, since he seems more willing to admit his connection to his friends on the Bebop (or hides it less successfully:))

If there is some resolution to Spike and Faye's relationship later in the series, please say so but don't tell me what happens! I can't wait to see the end of this series already. Why don't y'all tell me what you think of Spike and Faye's relationship in the first half of the series?

my take on Spike and Faye's relationship is that when they
initially meet, Spike is just being flirty with her kinda
like he was with Caterina (Asimov's girlfriend) in Session
1. when he realizes that she's cheating (which is pretty
much when she draws the dealer's next card), he cools off
a little bit. for the rest of the episode, its kinda
like he's getting her goat more than actually respecting
her (he swallows the poker chip she needs, he takes her
insult as a compliment instead of acting insulted which
was kinda irritating to Faye).

i don't think Spike ever really approves of the way Faye
lives her life, tho' he does care about her. as for Faye,
she doesn't seem to approve of sentimentality or really
caring about anyone other than herself, which kinda puts
her at odds with Spike.

there's not really a resolution to Spike and Faye's
relationship per se, but they do come to ... an
understanding of each other in the long run.

I don't really think that they like each other like that. Though I could be wrong. I think he's just the flirty type. Besides, he's already got a women ;) I've seen all of the series except for the last three, and unless something major happens there, I think it's just flirting. Although my friend said that the only reason she might be on that ship as long as she is cuz she's given out lol. I don know bout that. I wouldn't mind seeing them together though, it would make for an interesting relationship.

MILD SPOILERS CONTAINED (but nothing major)

After watching the whole series a few times i am sure that faye has eyes for spike.

In the last episode faye shows some interest at least in spike. In my oppinion i think that she wants him but he never really cares for her back. Just watch the last three episodes with this in mind and you might see what i mean.

My oppinion is just my oppinion :smokin:

Faye amd Spike? Talk about a complex relationship (at least on Faye's side of things). When hey first meet up, I think Faye acts like she does simply because that's the way she is. She's used to using her looks to keep everyone around her off balance. Later on though, she grows sort of attached. It's the whole comrades in arms thing. For his part, Spike acknowledges that she's useful at least, which is about as far as he goes for anybody. By the end of the series, things are more complex. Although I'd say Faye certainly likes Spike, most of her reaction in the final episodes comes from her realization that the Bebop is where she belongs. And now it's all coming apart.

well i am pretty much in the same boat that you are yui, i have up to eps 14 so i am craving the rest of the series. tonight when i was watching it i realized how much i wanted to see spike and faye together, maybe this is just me being so used to cliche "guy gets the girl" type thing, but damnit, it would just be too good. i guess in the end we are all just suckers for romance

okay, i have and have seen Sessions#1-25... Japanese tracks. and unfortunately, i haven't seen the final episode... {YES, this makes me want to KILL!!!} ..thus i can't be certain on any outcomes.

eitherway, to me, i haven't seen any romantic interests in either of the two characters. {again, this is with Subtitles and original Japanese track} the two seem to be so alike that they dispise eachother... it seems that Faye COULD have feelings for Spike, but he screws the moment every time. and the other way around, well Spike only cares for Julia... and his feelings for Faye? Pfft... none there... there are three things he hates, remember? "..Beasts, Tomboys, and Rugrats."

i'm more than interested in the ideas of their "non-relationship" though, and i personally wish {with what i HAVE seen} that there was more character developement in the story.

To really grasp the VERY subtle Spike-Faye thing, "The Real Folk Blues" really pulled it all together for me. All I can say is just keep watching (like you need me to tell you! :) ).

To those who have not seen Real Folk Blues Part II (i.e. the last episode)... you cannot make a judgement on their relationship. The last ep is where it becomes most apparent (whatever THAT is... nyuk nyuk, no spoilers from me).

Goddamn, I want the movie and I want it now.

How many episodes are in this series? I've only seen the first 5.

26 episode series. I'd say there is some attraction on Faye's part, but Spike doesn't notice or doesn't care. Remember, he's totally gone on Julia.

It's a damn shame nothing ever really comes of this relationship, because they'd be so great together. This is the only area in which I see a major fault with Spike :P I dunno, I think it shows something about Faye's character when you start to see her feelings for Spike, as though she's starting to crack her who-gives-a-rat's-ass-about-you shell.
