Gasaraki at the beginning was the novel series inserted in Newtype magazine.
The Anime story draws 8 years after the story of the novel. So, to complete all of GASARAKI story, we need to read the novel.

i was kind of weird about seeing this anime. Because the story could be a bit nationalistic, and we are afraid that some people (Especially, non-Japanese) could feel bad about it.
However, Anime story itself is very aggressive and original. It is something very new approach in Anime. So, I decided to watch this anyway. (The situation was much more like, "OK, don't worry be happy!")

How I can describe this Anime title GASARAKI? I may describe it as 2 categories. One is "Supernatural real robot Anime". And other is "Political fiction". (This is just AMO's categorization.) I can find many new and original approach in GASARAKI.
For example, they connected Nou(Japanese traditional dance. They sometimes say the dancing, "fluttering".) with Real Robot Anime. Also, the drawing style, design is based on traditional Japanese beauty.
Other new approach is that the story is a bit nationalistic, and right wing thought. Have we ever seen the Anime based on right wing thought? It is very new. Mamoru Oshii has a little bit the taste of right wing. But it was not obvious such as GASARAKI.

Talking about Mechanics, it is fantastic. As you may probably know, Director Ryousuke Takahashi is the Director of "Votoms". Real Robot Anime is his the most favorite work. In GASARAKI, the Robot is described as purely Weapon. They call the Robot, Tactical Armor (TA) in Special Self-defense force of Japan, and Metal Fake in Secret Society "Symbol".
The technology came from over technology of O-parts. The over technology was given by Gowa Family (Gowa conglomerate) to Special Self-defense force. And the secret society "Symbol" is supposed to have same O-parts as Gowa family. This type of background setting is a bit similar to Evangelion. But the Robot is more like real robot.
The design of TA or Metal Fake is very realistic. And sound effect of TA support to describe the robot as real weapon.

After the Neon Genesis Evangelion made by Gainax, i thought Sunrise corp was just old Anime company (Nothing but Gundam), and could not catch up new generation Anime company. However, i was totally wrong. Now a days, Sunrise corp is continuously releasing aggressive works. GASARAKI must be one of the remarkable works of current Sunrise corp, even whole over Japanese Anime.

The animation in this anime is extremely good.there are many many parts that i could not believe that this was a t.v. series.the computer graphics and cel animation mix as well as in Escaflowne.so you gonna have to expect quality stuff when you pop in this tape(or DVD).

About Story the story:
About AC 2015, the world has some area incident, and Japan is afflicted with immigration problem and is unsettled. Some patriots group in Japanese Special Self-defense Force are anxious about Japanese future, and is plotting coup d'etat.
Gowa family is the mysterious old family owns Gowa conglomerate. Gowa family secretly provides the Technology of Tactical Armor (TA) to Japanese Special Self-defense Force. The technology comes from the O-parts called "Kugai" which has been secretly succeeded in the family since Heian Period.




Kugai
Yushirou Gowa is the 4th son of Gowa family He has a talent to invoke Supernatural Phenomenon "GASARAKI" with dancing Fluttering of Gasara. He does not know what is GASARAKI, and the purpose of Gowa Family. He just follows what the family requests to him.
Miharu also has the talent to invoke the supernatural Phenomenon "GASARAKI". She is under the protection of the secret society "Symbol". She also does not know the purpose of Symbol.
What is the purpose of Gowa Family and Symbol? What is Kugai? Will the Coup d'tat will be made by Japanese Special Self-defense Force? And what is "GASARAKI"? Yushirou meets Miharu, and they become conscious of their ego. The story starts with full of mysteries.
