ok so it's not so insane...
Exactly how many times did lain mess with the world or the well, memories? i think 2-3 times, but i'm not sure as i've forgotten so much just after watching the whole thing again. please tell me the events when she messed with the real world.
Why is there so much government information in there like xanadu and the space crash... was it just to put a little alien in there and to eventually bring in masami eiri? although the info was related to lain was it necessary?
What exactly is the wired? at first i just thought internet. then i wasn't so sure as people's bodies were being seen and all. then i thought it had something to do with some kind of network of electrical impulses... i don't know anymore! it's another world or is it?
How was lain created in the "real world?" and when and how did masami eiri do it? he died.
there's more to come... if i can think of more... i'm sure i will.

EVERYONE MUST BE CONFUSED!
there must not be any facts to lain... maybe there is no one viewpoint...
anyways. no replies.

oh i feel so sad... lonely... and confused...
somebody help me!
to not be able to interpret something after many times experiencing is very disturbing...
well to me at least...
someone must have "studied up" on some lain.
no matter. i love lain no matter how many things i could not understand.

i really don't know what lain is. masami eiri said she was software... is that really true? she's a program? that's what she said, but that's weird. unimaginable in my mind as i'm not a computer person...
she can manipulate the world as she pleases... or maybe her world is what i thought...
"she's always existed in the wired." what is it? when was it created and was it actually created by a person or has it always been there? someone must have made a way to "connect to the wired." if it was explained in the show, i missed it.
this is another thought of mine. i think maybe lain wasn't created by masami eiri. she might be some kind of powerful angel created by the real G.O.D. as she does have a conversation with "father" in the wired world or who i think is god showing up in the wired to tell her why she has deleted herself from everyone's memory.

ok well it is a theory that every time it says "present day present time hahaha" it is a new start of lain creating an "alternate reality" every time it does that lain is changing the memories of people in the world, basically changeing reality, and then we see what that reality is like until it says "present day present time" which is the start of another change.
i really don't know what lain is. masami eiri said she was software... is that really true? she's a program? that's what she said, but that's weird. unimaginable in my mind as i'm not a computer person...
well eiri does say that he created lain, but i think lain has indeed always existed. once again i will use this analogy that i have probably used 10 times by now: take an object, this object has the POTENTIAL to move, but that potential doesn come into play until it becomes an action, and the object is actually moved. but none the less, the potential for it to move, basically the movement, has ALWAYS been there, it has always existed. i think this is what lain is, she could be looked at as a god, not really having an origin or an end. but what you said about lains father holds truth (havok had a theory about this that completely blew me away and made sense, but i will let him post it himself when he gets back) but anyway they sort of hinted that eiri did exist as a human before he became this "god" of the wired (they might have straight out said he used to be human) so what i think, is that eiri in a way discovered lain. like the objects movement lain had always existed, eiri just put her in motion, and claimed he was her creator.
i think the wired is the net in lain, but in real life and in lain the net is so much more than just how we see it. and i beleive that was one of the major points of lain, was to point out the lines which divide the real world from the net, and how thick and thin they can be. all in all the wired, internet, world wide web or whatever you want to call it, is another world. its another plain of existense which lain so boldly explored
i hope i have answered a few questions, and brought a few more out

Says the Beer Penguin:

I thought all the "peripheral" information was the hardest to swallow, but it added a another dimention to the theme and plot. It's like trying to piece a puzzle together, which is what the main Lain is trying to do. It's like she's digging up old news articles, declassified government documents and trying to add everything up. Maybe this is a representation of how we take seemingly irrelevant information and create our own reality in our heads. We can only think about what we know...what we don't know is pure speculation and theory. "Peripheral" also in the sense of computer parts that connect outside the motherboard......that was a strained analogy, huh? :confused2

I believe the point of that was to show us how Lain was going to break the barrier between the wired and the real world. Cuase they were talking about how at one point in time we were all sub-conscioiusley connected due to a constant field of 8 Mega Hertz surrounding the planet

13 times...she rewrote the memories of those around her {experimenting so to speak}. 1 time...she deletes all memories. 1 time...she resets all memories. and 1 time she rewrites all memories to NOT know Lain.

do you know what Infornography is?
the more you watch Lain and the more you do your research, the more you'll realize that all this information is not only true, but is also VERY important to the plot. did you know this "Eiri Masami" really existed?
all of this information is all linked together... if you are too lazy to watch the LAYERS again yourself, then i can go thru and explain it all to you, but i'd prefer not to.

what exactly IS the internet? it is simply a network of communication where information flows freely. the Wired IS the internet... only more personified. it gives an ideal figurative visual of what goes on inside a "network of communication where information flows freely"...i personally believe it IS another world just as the internet is another world to some of us here.

he didn't do it, Lain created Lain. she simply used Eiri as the prophet to create Lain.
