Has anyone else here read the Manga of Ranma 1/2. I read it before I watched the anime and it is really funny. The anime is pretty good but I like the mangas a little better (no bad dubbing)

Yeah, I've read. . . volumes 1-14, and lots of other random ones after that ^^;;
Th' manga 's a lot better then th' anime, I think. . . 'err, nothing switched around to make inconsistancies. . . and Sasuke isn't in th' manga! ^_^

I'm only reading it through Viz' publication.

So what inconsistencies are there in the TV show?

I've read most of what Viz have released so far, of course I haven't seen the anime.

'Err. . . Th' anime doesn't have Saffron or Akari. . 'eheh. .

Truthfully, with my semi-large collection of Ranma manga an' anime. . I haven't watched or read any Ranma 1/2 in a _long_ time **;;

So. . I can't really remember much of th' differences between th' show an' manga, though I do know that they are there.

Oh, and one other thing I can remember. . in th' manga, Ranma's fight with Cologne to get th' Phoenix Pill takes place at a beach, durin' th' summer. Th' same fight in th' anime takes place durin' th' winter at a ski resort an' a lot of really f*cked up techniques were used (Cologne poking th' snow and water shooting up. . . Cologne using an ice-bear to attack Ranma) . ^_^

I believe there are 17 out in the US, but I'm not sure of the total in Japan. I have read the first 15 and I love them to death. I haven't seen much of the anime but I thought the dubbing really took Akane, Genma, Male Ranma and various others out of character... yet everyone says it's a good dub... blah.

With the volumes, I'm not sure either but I think it's about 30 something (close to DBZ) so us poor fools buying it from Viz will be buying it for many many many years to come:( ....

I agree. I'm stuck waiting for the Viz GN releases, but it's worth it. I think it's mostly a case of the original being the best you know? No body beats Takahashi.

Not necessarily.
There are 38 volumes relased in Japan, and Viz will release the 16th one sometime between Feb and April. Viz also has Ranma going as a two chapter comic, and it's gotten way ahead of the complete volumes. However, they had up, so you'd probably have like a hundred or so to complete all 38 volumes. :eek2:

I've seen both the sub and dub, and I still think the dub is great. Well, except that season of the girly sounding Ranma *brrr*. Oh well, to each their own.

You got it right, there are 17 out in the US right now...I can't wait for volume 18. :)

Total of 38 volumes of Ranma. I've read the first one, as well as the Watermelon issue and the "Ukyo's Special Sauce" issue. 'Fraid I need to get some more!!

From what I've seen of the manga it does (more or less) follow a similar path of the anime. There are some differences, though, especially in later graphic novels (I've read some summaries. ^^)

One major difference I remember is that, in the manga, Happousai left the Tendo Dojo, and then came back, oh, 'bout two graphic novels later. In the anime, however, he was still there; he just never did anything important enough to effect the plot of that episode.

Another difference from the manga and the anime was the name of Tendo's dojo itself. In the anime, it was called "Tendo's Hall of Anything Goes Martial Arts," and in my VIZ translation of the manga, it's called "Tendo's Training Hall of Indiscriminate Grappling." [shrug]

I think the Indiscriminate Grappling and Anything Goes confusion comes from that the original japanese words can be translated either way.. I'm not sure but this is what I've heard.

That's gotta be what it is.

Also, I've gotten to read the second Ranma graphic novel now. It's really good! ^^

Manga is great!
But there's always differences when it comes to the Anime...
Sometimes the wordings are different...but it's just me...
I happen to love both of them!
(sorry for digging it up...but I just have to answer!)

The first season of Ranma 1/2 for the anime follows the manga pretty faithfully. After that, things changed a bit. There are some stories in the anime that are taken from the original manga, but there are also some anime-only stories that aren't even in the manga at all. The two Ranma movies, and some other individual episodes like the one with the Jusenkyo Police swordsman Kinii are examples of this.

There are also some alterations to existing manga stories in the anime. For example, the race that Ranma participates in in order to get the Phoenix Pill as a prize occurred on a beach in the manga. In the anime (Cold Competition) it occurs in a snow-filled mountain. There are also character substitution changes - such as Sasuke from the anime, who never existed in the manga but who replaces Gosunkugi in a lot of the anime stories that are taken from the manga.

So there are some differences, but overall it's not so bad. ^_^

I agree...at least we won't say..."argh! I read it already and it's the same word by word!" (now how often will we say that?):D
Even though they might be different, they are still great!
Sometimes the wordings in the Mangas are very different!

re: wording differences

Like "School of Indiscriminate Grappling"?

Well....it's the same thing in Manga and Anime right?
I mean sometimes, in the Manga, it's like:
When the characters are saying things.....
Try and compare Vol. 1 and Series 1 of Ranma 1/2....some are same, but the wordings are different sometimes...
