Worst Anime Ever Bought

Okay just a slight random small rant over a waist of 20 quid I just spent yesterday. Little History first, once a month I buy a random anime DVD just for diversity, sometimes its worked sometimes I've thought "Meh, not bad, but wont really bother with it"

Yesterday I bought Naruto Unleashed, Gunslinger Girl volume 1,2 and 3 and also an anime called Twilight of the dark Master.......... What a pile of crap!!! the anime was chopped to hell, it jumped all over the place, the whole thing made no sense  Needless to say this is one of the ones that's never gonna see the light of day ever again

So I ask you good people, have you had a similar experience? Also what was it, so I may avoid future upsets. :)

why don't you rent an anime instead... at least that way, if it was crappy, at least you diodnt waste any money...

The Creeper 31-08-2006 06:38 PM

Because barely any public tape stores have anything considering a "variety" of animes worth renting. Blockbuster is the only one that I know that rents anime, and there prices are a pain in the ass as it is.

Most people just buy animes and more or less gamble on buying crap or buying gold, that's how I got into anime in the first place. The WORST anime i saw has got to be Banner of the Stars when it came on G4/Tech TV.

God it was SOOO BORING! I waited through freaking 60 minutes for something to happen and nothing did, what a watse of my time.

Well there's your problem, maybe instead of going on a whim and buying some random title, take your time and do a bit of research before hand, read some reviews, get some opinions and then make your purchase.

I've made some bad purchases, one being Legend of Himiko, what a snooze fest that was. Luckily I was able to get a refund on that and spend the money on something better ala Spirited Away. Weiss Kreuz also was a waste of my money, Real Bout High whatever again was another poor purchase of mine.

Love Hina: The hype about this Anime was that it was the best thing ever. Oh how wrong everyone was. It sucked. Yu-Gi-Oh! is more entertaining. And it doesn't drag on as much either. The worst thing is I keep buying more volumes of it because of the hype. But it just didn't float my boat. Although I have to admit that the Christmas Special was O.K.

I SO know where your coming from.

Twilight of the Dark Master? Are you serious? I loved that anime! The hero was the quiet bad ass type and the villians were memborable. Who could of forgotten about the incest twins? o_O

Can't remember much about the story. I do remember it jumping quite a bit, but it didn't bother me that much (maybe I'm just more forgiving than you?). I think I watched it more for the crazy action-packed battles.

Thanks for reminding about the movie. I'm going to pick it up once I can. :D

I agree with Love Hina being terrible. Hell, the same can be said with Harem anime, period. Tenchi is the only one I can stand though. :p

... sadly I purchased X the movie... it sucked...

Manga Video's UK release of Odin; the worst anime I've ever paid money for, it's boring, so boring that I can't bring myself to watch it more than once, & I usually watch every anime I buy a couple of times just to see if I missed anything the first time around. An utter waste of time, nothing happens in it, watching paint dry is more enjoyable, though in it's defence, having 45 mins chopped out by MV probably didn't help.

Maze : Mega-Burst Space.I was looking for a good fantasy anime and this one had a caption "From the makers of Slayers and Record of Lodoss War",the 2 best fantasy animes of all time.So I bought it and regretted it.Full of cheap fan service and the plot is weak.

Since then I never buy an anime before I know exactly what I"m getting

The Creeper 02-09-2006 08:16 PM

I would wait before exploding dispatcher, because I don't know if he's referring to a particular Bubblegum crisis or all of them in general.

I myself am just a fan of the Tokyo 2040 version. Not that there's anything wrong with the other series, I just only got into that version of it.

Sword for Truth

Worst thing I have ever bought. I learnt with that one that I should never buy something just because it relates to a genre I like.

Cause the last anime that I saw (Package only. THANK HEAVEN!) in a renting store was porno.... XP

MrBS 05-09-2006 08:24 AM

Well as much as I lauded Abenobashi, the most recent example I a anime I got on DVD that I regretted somewhat was Elfen Lied. A shame though, looked and sounded great but to cut in a shocking ---- poor teen 'drama' into the the action which just got more depraved as the series went on (ill take decapitations any day over kiddy porn anyday) it turned into a series that I had to keep buying the volumes to see how it ended because surely.. it had to come to make some kind of point, hell even GANTZ managed that.

Well someone on eBay snapped up a bargain for a watched once only boxset of EL!
