KOF Storyline's
I was a late bloomer, can anyone explain the series to me? well the background?
|
Well I don't know how in-depth you really want it but here's where it all began:
King of Fighters is actually a spin off of Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting as both also used KoF (originally set up by Geese Howard) to set up the story. When '94 came around KoF had it's own set of stories and characters. At the same time, Fatal Fury still had it's own KoF (so don't know how that works story-wise, maybe different owners??). '94 was about some M.Bison/vega knock-off Rugal Bernstein (rich military meglo maniac) trying to rule the world etc except he had a taste for freezing worthy opponents and turning them into statues among other crazy crap (CvS gives a nod to this with Guile vs Rugal). Kyo's father dies in the process of the story and nothing much else happens to the other characters so to speak and rugal gets defeated. '95 iori pops in and there's a whole new story surrounding Kyo and iori and the orochi story takes place. Kyo's father is revived from the dead as the second last guy to beat. Rugal is also ressurected having tapped into some ancient evil power (orochi). '96 a lady connected with the old clans of the past (Kyo and iori's clan) set up the next KoF and near the end you find out that she is searching for pwerful fighters to challenge orochi's messenger (or something) Goenitz who's the lamest cheapest KoF boss. He dies and claims orochi will appear and clense the world. '97 and that's exactly what happens. Orochi appears and the fighters try and stop his over taking of the world. '98 has no story '99 - '02 stopped playing there and I have no idea what this thing is with the Nests Organization (to do with cloning and stuff) so you'll have to get that from someone else. Hope that helps |
Sorry should have clearified. I knew most of that, but thanks. I got lost when the story introduce K and Krizald and I was not sure if he tied in with Iori and Kyo. I also want to know where the Ikari Warriors fit into the whole story.
|
Im not a poster in this forum but I cant just leave this thread alone.
The Ikari Warriors are an organisation who are fighting against Nest Cartel (the bad guys) Anyway as Jackals given the jist of the first KOFs here are the ones from '99 onwards KOF'99 - Introduction of Nest Cartel and Krizalid who has captured Kyo and created clones of him and spread them around the world, the Ikari Warroirs have found out and are dealing with the situation. Blah blah another King of Fighters tournament is held with a new battle system 4 fighters instead of 3 (ala striker system in the game) this time its held by Krizalid (hmm interesting) KOF'00 - Nest Cartel is back and we meet Zero another officer of the Nest Cartlel. This time they are planning to destroy Southtown (hometown of Terry Bogard) with their Zero Cannon (why i cant remember :heh: ) also they are hunting down K (introduced in 99 his a Kyo clone) and Maxima both are traitors of Nest Cartel and who better to send after then them Kula Diamond the ice wielding fighter. KOF'01 - Kind of rusty on the storyline of this one but it once again revolves around Nest Cartel, this time the leader of the whole organisation Igniz appears, theres another K clone who appears K'9999 (K49 as some people call him ahem Tetsuo (Akira) ripoff) KOF'02 - Like KOF'98, a compilation of fighters from all the games even ones that have dissapeared. No storyline whatsoever I hope that helps im kinda rusty on my KOF storylines |

I currently have all three on order. :D |
Although a KoF anime was on every SNK fan's dreamlists of anime sadly it was never made. Fatal Fury didn't do well enough sadly.
The closest thing you can come to an anime is by trying to find a copy of King of Fighters Kyo which is a PS1 game based on the events after 96 leading to the end of 97 and has a lot of story but it's only available in japanese. It's just about Kyo trying to find partners for the new comp. It tells most of the story by displaying high quality cel artwork with speech from all the VA cast and text when they're too stingy to put in voices and the story adds in a few more made up characters for story purposes. The game is an odd turn based thing but it's not bad. You can cheat a lot of times by doing stupid moves. KoF Kyo is based on a manga as far as I know but I don't know if that's even possible to find anymore |
You could also check out the DC version KOF Dreammatch '99(it's really '98 but they renamed it for some stoopid reason...). It has a very cool anime opening of Kyo and Iori duking it out.
