Red face How fat are the paychecks of famous Seiyuus?

Recently, in a shocking column, it is revealed that the leading voice actors of "The Simpsons" are paid $100,000 dollars US per episode of work.

How much money would respected Seiyuus, say like Hayashibara Megumi or Miyamura Yuko, be paid per episode of anime they do anyway? If they receive as much recognition as the Simpsons cast did, they would be bloody millionaires by now.

(Or maybe they already are? Stranger things HAVE happened in the world of entertainment...)

Well, from what i've read around, it is apparently very low.

There's a very interesting interview with Ogama Megumi here => http://www.akadot.com/article/article-ogata1.html and here's a more interesting part related to the topic at hand.

Quote:
Originaly said by Ogata Megumi during the aforementioned interview.
Compared to American entertainment, which has a broader audience and targets the world market, Japanese entertainment is made under very harsh conditions. It is partly because of the problems of Japan's union. Even when Japanese anime is aired abroad, the Japanese seiyuus receive no pay, not even a single yen. Still, we are proud of our shows and all the people involved with them.

Indeed...

Apparently anime is not as well recognised in japan as we would think it to be. Also it seems that the view that animation is for childrens might not be as 'american exclusive' as we often made it to be, here is a quote from the same interview.

Quote:
Unfortunately, anime is generally rated low by the Japanese public. One reason is that many people still think anime is for small children, which is no longer true.

Funny, how although Seiyuus often have stellar careers outside anime as DJs, show hosts and actors, and still are poorer than the average American college dropout actor.

And the recent Japanese trend of putting "serious and dark" anime in the middle of the night and the happy-wappy ones in prime time is not helping the medium to gain any respect.

Sigh....

True, it is sad that they recieve no pay. But at least they are proud of the work they do.

The passion that Seiyuus invest into their careers is truly inspirational.
