Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi by GAINAX

Who has seen this series? It's odd that nobody talks about it when it's made by GAINAX, is it bad? Seems like a funny series from reading the synopsis.

I've seen volume one and two last year. It's a somewhat enjoyable series, each episode they travel into a new world where they spoof and parody many things such as other animes and movies.

I don't think it's a series you'd enjoy.

Abenobashi was a series that I grew tired of after the first couple of episodes but stuck through to the end as it did get the odd laugh. I thoroughly hated the ending though. Abenobashi mediocrity might not have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that Excel Saga exists. ES absolutely dominates Abenobashi for parody and humour.

Well taking from what you have said about Cowboy Bebop and how you didn't like the filler episodes as such. Abenobashi, each episode is a seperate story, the next episode doesn't have anything to do with the previous one.

I wouldn't dismiss a series just because it's not plot-driven, after all I liked Azumanga Daioh, and I knew it was not plot-driven. Cowboy Bebop just has a bag full of stuff that didn't work for me, being not plot-driven is one of its flaws.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is good. Well for the most part of it. Some of the serious episodes are boring (1st, Last and Flashback episode) but it's good for a laugh. I liked the Hollywood episode and Elvis - "Do you want a F**ken Hot Dog?"

well, i just saw the end on tv. not bad at all. i thought they were going to throw the entire series out with some ending crammed with so much "meaning" and BS that it would ruin everything. but they kept it rather in check i guess and it wasn't a bad ending for a GAINAX series.

i am confused about the "new" omniomystic in the end, but i'm thinking it was a rather cultural reference. also a bit confused at the reappearance of 2 certain people at the very end... actually, there are a lot of unexplained things like that (regarding those two). but whatever, it was entertaining.
