No, unfortunately it is not an anime, it was befire that time. But the seven samurai in Samurai 7 supposedly reflect the seven samurai in the original movie. The seventh and final part of the anime was just released in june.

Sorceresses, knights, magic, monsters, dragons, wizards and what not. What genre would you group Slayers under then?

Samurai 7 is pretty good, with an interesting twist on the notion of integrating technology with tradition. Its the timeless notion of good vs. evil, where the weak and downtrodden are seemingly at the mercy of a great and undefeatable evil ... with the only hope in a small band of heros.

BTW ... S7 is a modern adaptation of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai which is a Japanese Samurai Classic starring Toshiro Mifune as the "Samurai Farmer".

Samurai 7 is pretty sweet, I like the characters and the distinct characteristics they have been given.

It's clear from the novels that Slayers is intended as a parody of Fantasy stories, and at the same time it will often involve serious fantasy plots/story telling mixed in with the comedy. It's "different" only because that's the way Kajishima wrote it, but it *is* fantasy.

In that same vein, I could suggest Louie the Rune Soldier.

Just another FYI: The movie "The Magnificent Seven" is a western (i.e., yanki gaijin ) adaptation of Kurosawa's film as well.

hm..if magic puts something into a fantasy catagory then would Outlaw Star fit under that? It seems like it would be kinda Sci-fi/Fantasy since it deals alot with space and things of that nature and magic is used quit a bit ( Like Gene Starwind and Ron McDougall's Caster guns and the Tao magic used by the Kei Pirates). Either way it's a realy good show and i think it's worth seeing if you haven't already seen it.
