It's Pokemon with spinning tops, radical. They should make an anime about XTREME SOLITARE! Or OLD MAID TURBO!

I admit it, I liked watch Beyblade. I got my morning kicks from it due to the terrible dialogue, and the general nonsense that occurred in the show.

Not true, there's manga for Beyblade.

This is just about the only series I have been watching over the last 2-3 years (mainly because it comes on after midnight):

I found it very entertaining - the first series had really dirt-poor animation and storyline (with Tyson looking like a deformed Ash Ketchum), but the 2nd series introduced a new semi-super-deformed style and a much better plot. However, things only really picked up when the Saint Shields and Zeo were introduced - the latter being a spunky kid, a rough blader honed to perfection by Tyson, only to turn on him (remember Rocky V?). There was a nice interplay of plotlines - who were the Saint Shields and what was their design in life? What was Zeo's inner secret? How annoying are King and Queen? And what an awesome ending to the series - the fate of the cursed Zeo was charged with suspense and intrigue. The song "Underdog" was also suitably dynamic, blending the action sequences in harmony.

The 3rd series is where Beyblade really comes into its own. Animation again improved significantly. Kai in particular really grows in character, acquiring that unique lone-ranger, don't-give-a-damn-about-what-you-think-about-me-because-I-know-I-can-beat-you attitude; classic catchphrases emanating from him: e.g. "stick to your game plan" - sage advice to Tyson. The build-up to the ultimate "Beyblade-for-your-life" fights between natural Beyblading extraordinaire Brooklyn (his face reminds me of Kaworu from Evangelion) and Kai was, quite simply, divine. All of the 6 final matches were good; Tyson VS Brooklyn was electric.

I also liked the way the 5 protagonists complement each other - Tyson's rashness is balanced by Kai's calm demeanour; Max's bubbly personality is countered by Ray's gritty determination; Daichi's comedy capers is balanced by Tyson's authority; Kai's irrepressible wisdom is met by Max's stupid cheerfulness - and the introduction of Hilary added that softer tinge to the group.

And all this without any mention of the theme of how man's true spirit can really smash through man's creation (machines). Yes, how wonderful it was to see the face on Max's mum as her scientific regime came falling down faster than a lead balloon, forcing her to recognise the human, but all-too-human power of man's soul!

So all things considered, a very good anime - one of the biggest surprises for me is the actual plot content. In those immortal words: "let it riiiiipppp!!!"

I actually liked it... I thought it would be gay at first but the more I watched the more I enjoyed... Same goes for Yu-Gi-Oh GX... though I hated its predecessor, that was just ------.

I'm quite surprised how much I still enjoy kids anime.. I wouldn't go out of my way to rent it if it was to be cancelled... nor would I care if I missed it, but it really is a relaxing way to wake up in the morning because the plot is pretty basic and doesn't take much concentration to follow.

I prefer the first few seasons, because the dubs are just top notched in being horrible. There were many ridiculous lines such that were worded quite awkward or didn't fit in so well with the setting. Sadly...I can't remember any of them right now.

And yes, I'd actually go out of my way to rent the DVDs if anyone place around has them.
