Now and Then, Here and There

I just finished disc 1, which contains episodes 1-5. The story is a bit slow to develop, but it get intense early on. The main character gets tortured throughout episodes 2 and 3 -- most series would limit something like that to one episode. Then another character is raped -- off screen. You really don't see that in too many animes.

I watched the first three episodes twice -- once in English and then in Japanese with subtitles. Based on the subtitles, I would say there are only a few minor differences in the dialog. But the English dub is terrible, especially the voices for Shu and King Hamdo. The voice for Hamdo in the English version is so over the top that he comes off as more of a comic character than evil. For episodes 4 and 5, I just watched the Japanese dub.

Has anyone else seen this series? No spoilers please!

I really enjoyed this series, it gave some good insight on how war affects everyone, I found the plot very engaging imo.

I suggest you watch the rest. In my opinion it only gets better, and even more dramatic and intense, as the series goes on.

I mean, what do you expect from an Anime whose 12th episode is titled "This Bloody Earth."

The ending is also very well done; and by that I mean the very last, ending image of the whole thing.

Indeed. The first episode was rather uneventful, even with Shu and Lala-Ru being captured. SPOILER (highlight to read): But by the time you get to episode 3, you have Sara being raped. And it gets even more intense after that.

I just go through disc 2, episodes 6-9. Episode 9 quiets things down just a bit, but you do get a hint of the carnage that is to come.

Well, I've finished up the series last night. I liked its bitter-sweet ending. We never find out exactly what Lala-ru is, but it is obvious that Shu had feelings for her. Sara seems like a stronger person. The series pulled no stops in even allowing characters to be killed off which other series would have lived. I won't say anything more about it as I do not want to post any spoilers.

Actually, I said I liked the ending.

Maybe I should start another thread dealing with the ending where spoilers are allowed.
