Moving to Japan, trying to learn the language

Hey all,

First time poster, and mainly here for some information if anyone is able to give it. I will be moving to Japan to live (working for 1 yr) in a month or so and am trying to learn (Read: teach myself) as much Japanese as possible before I leave.

I have been watching anime for years, but have never really paid attention to the language, merely read the subs, and I am currently looking for an anime that heavily features "day to day" convos between people in modern day. Im a very big fan of the fantasy / samurai anime, but for the purpose of listening to normal conversations I am just looking for any anime. I would think that one of the "teen drama / love high school" animes might be the way?

Any suggestions appreciated

It'll be easier to learn Japanese once you get here. But, you don't really need it to live day-to-day.

Because Japan is a major tourist destination, so everything is easily available for people who don't speak Japanese. Everywhere you go, there are English signs, English menus, English speakers. The only places you may need Japanese is what out in the country, where foreigners don't go. But, out there you'd probably be attacked by some old farmer who thinks you are some sort of devil.
