Is the original 'mobile suit' available?

I got hooked on Gundam the other day. My friend comes over periodically and we show each other what new anime's or episodes we've collected over the last month or so.

I'm more into the romantic comedies (Ranma, Maison, Tenchi, Dual...) and he's into the action stuff (DBZ, Gundam, ect)

So we get done watching the first DVD of my new Ranma box set, and he pops in operation 7 of Gundam Wing and I got instantly hooked. So I stole a few of his gundam wing dvds.

Here's the question I wanted to know, but he couldn't answer:

The original series is simply "Mobile Suit: Gundam" right? And there are other series that I have noticed (But never watched) 0080, 0083, 08th MST, Gundam Wing, Endless Waltz, ect. But I have never seen any of the original Gundam series on TV or for sale. Is it on DVD? Or is it out of print? Did it even come to the states?

MSG you can still get. The American version is coming out as we speak, some are out now, and I think that you might be able to get the Japenese version.

Mobile Suit Gundam, the original Gundam series, aired on Toonami from July 23 to September 12th. Its ratings were low because of the old animation, so the CN execs took advantage of the WTC stuff to cancel it without airing 5 of the last 6 episodes. They aired the final episode just the other night, although none of the ones between. The odds of it ever being on TV again are low.

As for buying it yourself, the first 23 episodes have been released on DVD/VHS in dubbed format. The next 8 eps will be out in approximately a month, with 8 eps coming out each 2 months until the series is done with episode 43.

Here's your irony:

The day after I posted this...I walked into BestBuy and saw the first Mobile Suit Gundam episodes on DVD.

So I bought it, and I love it. I don't see why people thought it sucked.
