some inu yusha questions

i havent seen an episode of inu yusha yet, but since it'll be on tv, i decided to ask some questions:

1. what is it like?

2. im thinking of getting the manga, i have access to vol. 1-10 of the graphic novels released by Viz, so do you think i should read the manga, or is the anime better?

3. does IY have that romance story kinda like ranma 1/2?

4. how long is the series? last time i heard it was still running. i know the latest fansubbed episode is ep. 55...

5. what do you think of it?

It's a feudal fairy tale, set in feudal Japan. It's very close in most respects to the manga, with the exception of some filler episodes and leaving out some of the story arcs in the manga.

Do both. It wouldn't hurt. I'd recommend getting the manga in Japanese and reading translations with them, since the pictures won't be flipped (it's important in at least one part of the story which eye is the right eye and which is the left). It'll be a bit cheaper at some places than getting the translated copies. If you watch the anime and then read the manga, it's easy to follow the story even if you don't know Japanese (like me).

From what little I've seen of Ranma, I think it does. At least sort of. And with the Japanese seiyuu, Ranma and Inuyasha have the same seiyuu, Akane and Kikyo have the same seiyuu, and Genma and Myoga have the same seiyuu. There're more, but those are the three big ones. But yes, there's a romance story in it, but it's well done. Some episodes focus mainly on it, while others focus more on the youkai and the shikon shards.

It's still going. The most recent ep I've heard of is 60 or 61, but it may be a bit further than that. I think they've fansubbed as far as 58 or 59, with the exception of my friend's copy of 56, but I may be wrong.

I really like it. Before I switched to a Kougaiji avatar, my avatar was Inuyasha from one of the earlier episodes. If it's any indication, I've got an Inuyasha figurine, an Inuyasha plushie (which stands at about 15" tall), one volume of the manga, with intent to get more stuff when I can, mostly manga. ::poings:: Is one of my favorite series.

Uhhhhh... Yasei covered this fairly well... but basically it has to do with a sacred stone, and a girl who goes back to the age of demons and half-demons (and the like) and is supposed to be the reincarnation of a the priestess (miko) who protected this stone. Since if the stone gets taken by a demon than it can have lots of power, so now that the main character, Kagome has gone back in time (on accident) as this reincarnation, she must protect the stone now.

Well... I'm not familiar with the manga personally, but I have a well trusted friend who is. She introduced me to this wonderful series in the first place- and she said the manga, is very good, but it doesn't quite capture the show as the manga. You run into that often with action filled animes. Inu Yasha is a great anime, and I have no doubt in my mind the manga is great too. If you can get both, go for it. Although getting the original japanese is wonderful in most cases, if you're like me, glancing from translations to the original and back is distracting and its hard to fall into the story. So, if you're like that, go for those Viz ones. Viz is one of the best american translation companies and they do a wonderful job.

Yes... one of those, "I like you, but I suck at showing it" kinds of things. It also has more twists and turns than Ranma 1/2 so it seems (though I have not see that much of that particular anime) and its alot of fun and very enjoyable. I think the characters are superior and more likeable in Inu Yasha than Ranma 1/2, as I was unimpressed with the women in Ranma 1/2, which is very much not the case with Inu Yasha.

Its intended to get up to 75 or so episodes, though you know how anime goes, it usually follows its own pattern. Its up to 63 fansubbed episodes at the moment, almost all of which I have seen.

This is a truly wonderful series, with humor, romance, and a very good plot. Though it follows some of the ideas of other anime, going back in time, that kind of thing, it really holds a unique feeling to it. I almost didn't get into this series, just because I wasn't big on Ranma 1/2, but a friend kept advising it, so I finally broke down. This is one of those animes you will watch more than once and love every second of.

There are currently 25 volumes of the manga available in Japan, and the series is still going on from what I can tell.

As for the American release by Viz....I really don't know when the next volume will be released. I don't generally buy the translated manga because it's more expensive than the Japanese manga.
