End of an Era ep 4

Narrator: Last time, the battle between the two power-hungry lizards raged on into the temple that almost spelled humanity's doom a year ago. There were portals, fireballs and everything else you could think of thrown around inside the heaven-scraping tower, but in the end ther had to be a victor. Through intense concentration brought around by having to stay out of his lizard mind/form, magnus actually gained his total ability for approximately 5-10 seconds, destroying the tower in the process.
Now with a scared Cthulu, an even more determined Magnus and one last place to go, His Divine Technologies is really going to heat up.

and now End of an Era episode 4 : The future looks bright/ finishing off business

It had been one week exactly since the destruction of the arctic tower. No sign of Magnus had been found and now Cthulu had men sweeping all over the country to find him. He knew they wouldn't, or they would and be like gnats to his bother, but it gave him a safe feeling. Cthulu had to admit, he was paranoid.

"Get in here, captain!" He yelled from his presidentioal office, only slightly renovated since Magnus half destroyed it last year. At his command, the well-built, armoured up guard captain ran to Cthulu's side with a "Yes,sir!". Cthulu stared the man down."Has there been any sign of the man I asked you to find?" He asked. The captain shook his head. "No sir, we've searched the cities and burnt any village to the ground just to find him or draw him out, but he could be anywhere" The captain explained and then was gestured out, leaving Cthon to lapse further into paranoia.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Magnus woke up to the sun playing across his features, and looked around him. Nobody was there, obviously nobody had worked out his hiding place. The roof of HDT had a great exposure to the sunlight and merges didn't need to eat so food wasn't an issue. It seemed his brother was still shaken up sufficiently to realise that Magnus would probably be under his very nose or in this case, slightly above it. However it had already been five days and the shock would wear off sooner or later, so Magnus finally made a dicision on what he would do.

/Cthulu started this fight, and like it or not he will finish it. Todays the day of his demise/ Magnus thought, giving off a little chuckle at the idea of Cthulu begging for mercy. Carefully, he pulled a batch of plastic explosive from his cloak. He'd picked it up from the remains of the resistance base before he decided to kip on the roof and the roof was as good a place as any to use it. He slapped a healthy dose on both sides of the roof just on the sides so he could cave in a wall or two and stuck in the electronic firers.
Magnus teleported to the front gate and pulled out the detonator, he wanted to watch these fireworks, and gave a gentle squeeze to the detonator, twice.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cthulu was talking to his vice president over the phone, discussing a few special arrangements he had made to give an advantage for when he and Magnus fought again, he whispered nervously into the phone. "Is the failsafe ready?" "of course" the voice on the other end replied. " If he tries to kill you, we'll talk him out of it!"
Cthulu was about to give his confirmation when an icredible explosion rocked the tower to it's foundations. A little message from his brother, it seemed.
/No matter, now I have my own little message to give, and i give mine out more appropriately than my brother/Cthulu laughed before teleporting down into the basement floors of the complex, where his vice president was already waiting. Patiently they awaited the arrival of the last element in the puzzle.
Magnus teleported in, expecting to find that everyone except his brother and a few guards had evacuated. Instead he found his brother there with no guards and some little wimp in a suit/tie combo. "Well, well, you're not surrounded by a platoon of guards, i'm impressed by your guts." Magnus exclaimed. "Heh, well guards would do no good here, besides i don't need help beating you!" Cthulu shot back.
There was nothing said for a while after that, except the clanging of some of the machinery in the basement area. Magnus spoke up finally. "Let's do this thing!" he exclaimed. Cthulu smiled, and laughed as the captain of the guard burst out of the shadows behind Magnus and grabbed him, catching Magnus completely by surprise.
"Good, good" Cthulu said, applauding the captain. " You're keeping his arms up in the air so he can't try anything, smart man. You may be strong in mind, brother, but you still have no muscle. Maybe that's why the lizards were all wiped out.
Magnus groaned and tried to get away, but to no avail. " The lizards were all wiped out by my father, and the son is goign to continue the tradition, mark my words!" Magnus spat. Inside however, he was singing a different tune.

/A trap, how could I let myself be trapped so easily? I'm a moron. It looks like future IS changeable, even in my case. My father may have been evil and possessed, but he would never let himself get captured so easily/ Magnus lowered his head as he thought, unable to look into the eyes of the only other surviving lizard mind lodged in that evil merge shell.
Cthulu noticed this and stepped closer to Magnus, grabbing his chin and forcing his head up."Don't feel so bad Magnus, just because somebody outsmarted you. You're not dead yet. In fact you won't be dead for another 30 minutes." An evil smile came across Cthulu's face. "however, i can't give the same guarantee about torture!" With those words, Cthulu slid Iron Spike out of his hand and slashed at Magnus's chest, two, three times. Magnus screamed a mixed scream, hlaf torment, half anger, mostly human. Cthulu laughed as the blood seeped through Magnus's damaged cloak. "You know what I like about us merges?" Cthulu asked rhetorically. "It's the amazing endurance. I mean, I can slice away and you would still have to wait until all the blood drained out of yuor body to die and if you went lizard form on me all your wounds would be healed."
Magnus eyeballed his brother. "I bet you'd like that, wouldn't you? Then I would be a mindless slave for a few minutes before you killed me."
"Indeed" Cthulu replied "but then again, it's still so much fun to do something like this." Cthulu thrust Iron spike into Magnus' stomach, on the side so he would miss any vital organs and then, with a twist of his hand, retracted the spike causing even more pain. magnus screamed again, only this time the scream was almost totally inhuman.
Cthulu turned to his vice president. "It's time, get her!" he yelled and with a click of the V.P's fingers, two soldiers brought in kelly Mitchell, bruised and bloodied but alive. Magnus's eyes widened and he found an air of happiness even in the cold refinement of death and the basement.
"Kelly!" Magnus yelled out, the joy of seeing her washing over the pain, dulling it. He was bleeding badly but he didn't care as long as she was okay.
Cthulu walked over to kelly and started running a hnd through her hair as she trembled before him. "The last surviving member of the resistance, and your 'special friend'. She's a nice girl!"
Magnus yelled at the height of his anger. "Cthulu, if you hurt her any more I swear I will completely ---- YOU UP!!!" His brother ignored him and gave Kelly a deep kiss on the lips before moving behind her and placing his hands on her dirty shoulders.
Magnus saw that kelly was not fighting in any way so in desperation, he tried to urge her on. "Kelly, come on kelly, fight it, fight him, do something!!" Cthulu laughed. " She can't hear you, brother, she's deaf! We took her hearing away, took her sight away, treated her like the scum she is!" Everyone except Magnus and Kelly started laughing their heads off at the truth. Magnus just kept babbling, almost insane with rage, sadness and bloodlust. Never again would Kelly see the sun, or hear the animals and sounds of the world. She would never truly live again.
Kelly started crying as the hands moved up past her neck and got a good grip on her head.
"Do you know the trouble with nice girls Magnus? Escpecially human girls?" Cthulu asked but did not wait for an answer. "They're so darn fragile!" With this, he twisted her neck sharply around as a horrifyin snap came from inside the woman's neck. As he let go, the body limply dropped to the floor, the head twisted just over 180 degrees around. Cthulu started kicking the body over to Magnus's feet as the guard captain let go of Magnus's arms. He stooped to the ground, bent over Kelly's dead body. The one was dead, all his ties to the human world were severed. He didn't care anymore, he was just a shell.
"Oh Magnus!" A voice rang out in front of him, he moved his head up. His brother wasn't there, he was behind him. Cthulu jammed Iron Spike right into Magnus's back and thrust so hard the spike went completely through him. Magnus screamed and fell faint to the ground, stuggling to cling on to life.

Everything was like before, he awoke in the stream of his conciousness, A large black expanse, and could see his lizard mind again rush ahead as the human mind was pushed further and further away. Last time he fought, this time he couldn't care less. Outside his mind his body faded away as Cthulu looked on, having ushered out all his associates. Soon it would be replaced by the lizard body, and that would be that.
Suddenly Magnus found himself sitting on a bench in the expanse, with kelly sitting next to him. He turned to her.
"I'm doing this for you, you know. We can be together like this"
Kelly turned her head to face Magnus. "What a crock!" she yelled, leaving Magnus fumbling in surprise. "You're just trying to find an easy way out!". ". Kelly, I don't care anymore, my time on the world is over now, it's naturally over, it has to be this way."
Kelly floated up off of the bench. "Human life is never over naturally, your body just gives up. It's all a matter of fighting for survival, of having something to hope for. I was captured, I was made blind, deaf, everything you can imagine. I clung on to life in the hope of meeting you again and I did that, that's when it was time to end my suffering, my time." Magnus looked into his lap as kelly continued. "Magnus, you've fought for survival ever since you were made, your whole being is based around survival and you've succeeded. You killed two of your brothers, you almost died due to mind drain and you struggled to return to a human state in the temple. You saved the world and you still fight. Magnus, you need to fight, you need to be humanity's hero and the first thing you need to do is destroy Cthulu's rule over the world's economy and way of life."
Magnus looked up into kelly's eyes. "but I want to be with you!"
Kelly floated up to where the two brains were joining together as they spoke, as Magnus was fighting. "You will" she said before taking her place in Magnus's mind. This time the minds would not drift apart, his memories of kelly and the fact that he must make sure the story is told would make sure of that. He had something to hold on to, his anchor. It was time.
The ultimate goal of a merge, 100% power, ability to know past, present and future and his right as the one true merge were in his hands.

Cthulu waited as the body vanished from sight, and cackled in triumph. However the cackle turned into a gasp as the still-human form of Magnus rematerialised on the floor, completely healed. Cthulu backed away as his brother got up and stared into his eyes, showing the knowledge of the universes as Cthulu stared into his pupils. Snapping out of it with a shake of his head, he asked "What happened?". Magnus held up a finger to silence him, and then ,without hardly even concentrating sent the same blue light from the temple seeping through all the cracks and the strains in the metal, widening it all for the final big bang. Only after the light vanished did Magnus speak.
"I found another side of me!" He said softly, before droping his fingewr to his side and making all hell break loose. His brother couldn't see magnus through all the light and smoke, and it was all he could do just to survive being crushed into the wall and burned considerably. The computer banks exploded, the presedential office exploded, everything was vapourised. The cables connecting HDT to the rest of the world were cut, all the sub branches of the company ceased funtioning. A new world was upon them, a world not ruled by a corporation, a new start. All the citizens of all the world give a mighty cheer. The cheer heard across the world, the resistance had won. HST was finished.
And Magnus was a new man...

The smoke cleared, leaving Cthulu standing in a clear flat piece of concrete on top of a man-made mountain, all that was left of HDT. Magnus stood on the other side of the slab, his aura so large you could see it. He floated slowly above the ground. A new power granted to him by the 100% abilities of a merge, the power of flight. Cthulu looked at him with anger. "you stupid fool, you destroyed everything, you've ruined it all, I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!" Cthulu yelled as he raced towards him, his Iron Spike sliding out again. Without a word, Magnus wrapped his psychic shield around Cthulu's hand, immobilising it, before a wave of fire spread across his body, right in the path of Cthulu's trapped hand.
"AAAAARRRGGH!!!" Cthulu yelled as the fire raced across his hand, and after Mgnus released it from his mind's grip, Cthulu looked down to see the damage. His hand was gone and in it's place was a melted lump of Iron and flesh melded together. Cthulu thought aloud.
"That was psi-fire, it's impossible, it melts flesh clean off. How did you-- I see, are you so strong that you can use two draining abilities at the same time without even breaking a sweat?"
Magnus spoke up for the first time. "bingo" he said, before shooting a fireball of such strength that it almost had the strength of his planet killer blast. It had the same shape too. Cthulu went to block it but it cut right through his shield AND his hands, dissipating before it reached his neck. Cthulu's hands lay on the ground, one melted, one normal, both gone. That's when Magnus got quick.
He charged Cthulu, slamming him with a psi-blast that he didn't even look like doing, and sent Cthulu flying. In an instant Magnus had teleported into Cthulu's flight path and did another psi-blast, sending Cthulu through the rock of the mountain and out the other side where Magnus was waiting for him, sending him into the air, and finally through the ground with a final psi-blast.
Cthulu was near death but Magnus wasn't finished. Cthulu had one last-ditch chance to stop Magnus from killing him. Slowly MAgnus walked towards his prone form yelling out " You killed her! you killed her!" Before Magnus could do a finishing blow, Cthulu yelled out. "But you killed our brothers! Our Race!" Magnus stopped, still ready to slid his new Gold Spike through his brother's head but now listening to what he had to say.
"There were only four left of an entire race, and now there is one because of you! All we wanted to do was have a chance of a new start!"
Magnus was still angry. "Why'd you ressurect him, why did you kill so many?" he asked. Cthulu answered. 'We thought he would lead us into a new world, and we killed who we needed to kill for survival, but nowhere near as many as you!" Cthulu started coughing, he was nearing his end. "You killed hundreds, maybe thousands, and you wiped out a race. YOu will not live forever, Magnus! When you die, the memories of the cluster will die with you. I am reaching the end, too bad I can't go into lizard form, hey?" He laughed, causing blood to gush out his mouth. " I wanted to make amends, make a start. Forgive me brother for I have sinned, I have been driven mad with anger for you!"
MAgnus was sad now, he knelt down next to his brother. "All is forgiven, I hope you go to the same place as Kelly, as all of them. Say hello to them for me!" Cthulu smiled. "For the Cluster!" he said.
"For the Cluster!" Magnus said back, and then it was over. Cthulu was dead and MAgnus was alone in the world. For the first time in his existance, he wept.

Magnus lit the pyre, watching the flames creep over the two bodies. Kelly Mitchell, an unknown hero to the world. His brother, Cthulu. A bad guy gone right, he had made amends. Nobody cared about them, nobody would remember them in 100 years time. Except Magnus.
He thought and thought as the pyre conitnued to burn and then he spoke softly. "that will not do" he said.

He looked into the future, stirred up hundreds of ideas and scenarios and then distilled them into one. He stood up from his sitting position, nodded and then started concentrating. His mind was now powerful enough to expand and contract it over any area he chose, although it weakened his ability. He would expand it such that every person on Earth would have memories, his memories, of the cluster and of the combined efforts of the resistance, on his brothers and on the repentance of Cthulu. They would cycle endlessly, one person dies another is born with those memories, everyone would know of the cluster.
However, it was a sacrifice of sorts, as Magnus spread his mind further and further, his body faded in and out of existance, and at the end, it was completely stretched ofer every infinite point in time, space and probability. Before he left forever he mad eone final memory, he had looked into the future, something was coming. A huge bane on the Earth, although he could not see it clearly. His final memory was that in 1000 years time Humanity should get together, and give up their memory cells so that Magnus would be reborn, much like what happened with His Divine Shadow. After that thought, he was no longer visible.

Everyone went about their business, making a new life, a new government, and regaining former technologies, independant technologies.

Magnus still had a degree of conciousness, and the actions he would sometimes do were known as ghostly actions, or haunts.

A monument was made to the resistance and the four lizards, keeping memory alive forever.

And every night, people dream of all that happened on Earth so many years ago, and of the future.

Of the return of Magnus, of the Cluster

But those 1000 years are almost up

This is the story of the Cluster, this is the story that has no end

Only Beginnings...

Hmm... Not bad. Though the last scenes could have had some more tensions. They were very interesting, I must admit. Really good within the marks of the gender you're dealing with(action... actually not my favourite).
The idea from the oniric scene (see how things work when you follow my advise?) up to the ending is well thought and original, but there is something that keeps'em from being really vivid and having the force they deserve... Maybe I'm just playing angry critic, I don't know. But you could maybe make the change from 'reallity' to dream a little more abrupt. Don't even use "suddenly", just start off with Kelly speaking as if they had been sitting there for quite a while already. Then, when you fade back into reallity and everything starts blowing, maybe present tense could help to emphasize a change. Add some descriptions of the enviroment during the flying battle. Feel the wind, the sun, the height. Everything must look pretty small from up there. If you mention things like that, I'll really feel like flying.
Ctulu's death scene is something I really didn't expect. I've seen other villains going good before, but never had I seen the guilt be pushed onto the hero. Magnus' reaction is kind'a... not very human, I don't know. If you ask me, I'd say he should feel the guilt a little tougher, not just smile and be the good guy again. What you almost did there was really kickass, inverting the roles. Let Ctulu die without Magnus answering, then Magnus weep angry at himself and hit the rocks. That would then really give us a guilty Magnus who starts the story all over again to wash his guilt.
Just my opinion, though...
