Shinjuku is DOOMED!

What is it with anime and destroying that place? Master Asia and the Dark Gundam hand the city it's ass in G Gundam and in Demon City Shinjuku is becomes the axis mundi of Hell's invasion of the mortal world. Is it like Japan's Miami or something where everyone including it's residents would be happy if it sank into the ocean? Is it the butthole of Japan?

More like Japan's LA. Isn't Shinjuku like the modern day pleasure district? The Japanese center of sin? (Not prostitution, I mean gambling, clubs, bars, and enetertainment, but I'm sure thats there too...)

I just think of the Hellmouth from Buffy

LA? I thought Vegas was America's sin city...

Eh, it's not just Shinjuku. Look how many anime/Japanese movies there are in which all of Tokyo is the target. But then, maybe that's for the same reason Washington DC is the target of American alien invasion movies. I dunno. Ignore me.

Shinjuku *and* Tokyo Tower.

Shinjuku was the first area of Tokyo (and therefore Japan, I presume) to have many tall buildings. Now, it's impressive if monsters rampage among tall buildings (e.g. Tokyo Tower - which, btw, is across town from Shinjuku).

It's not so kewl if a monster destroys a whole lot of little houses

BTW, for more recent pics of Japan, check my holiday report in the"Conventions" forum:

To keep this relatively on-topic, here is a pic I took a couple of weeks ago. It was taken from the 47th floor of the Keio Plaza Intercontinental hotel in Shinjuku, looking east towards the entertainment district.

Purty lights!

Shinjinku has one of the busiest train stations in Japan. It would be fun to just sit and watch the people run to/from the trains on a weekday morning.

Yeah, true true. I just think of LA as dirty, crime-ridden, decadent....Vegas is more of sin central though

Yeah the Tokyo Tower has this "blow me up and crush me and use me as inter-dimensional portal" feel all over it...
