Yuna's Staff : New to cosplay and just need advice

Greetings. Well, after much deliberation, I've decided I'm going to make my own cosplay costume this year for Manifest in Melbourne (I still have lots of time which is good in case I mess up or something).

As I'm a huge FF fan, I have decided to go as Yuna for FFX. I know there's a lot of people cosplay as Yuna, as I've seen on the web. But she is my favorite character, and also has a costume that I think I can handle as it's my first time at this (other than a lame attempt at a Sephiroth jacket that I made for fun once ... actually it would have worked out okay if I modified a better garmet than I did).

What I aren't sure of is her staff, or more specifically the top part of it. I've seen lots of people with very realistic looking staffs on the web. So I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what to use to make a staff. The only thing I can think of myself is paper mache. But I don't think that would work too well.

I did try and hunt the web, and the ones I found said they got their dad's to help them! Well I'll have to do mine myself, even though my dad is a carpenter, he doesn't have the tools to cut something like a staff head out of wood.

If anyone can point a person new to cosplay in the right direction, it would so much be appreciated.

Abe Babe...

my friend cosplayed as Yuna at the Sakura Con 2003, she used a copper rod, spray painted it, then used a thick styrofoam and cut out the shape, spray paint it gold..

Thanks for the ideas! I now have some areas to start looking into. I was planning on making just her standard staff, as I like the look of it best. I also found out where I can access tools to cut out of wood if I decided to go for that option also.

styrofoam would be your best bet for the top part of her staff.

Been a while since I've been online here ... and I've missed replies!

Heh, yeah. I don't know anyone that has a welder! LOL

I've started some of the staff already, but if you could email me the instructions that you have, then that would be great. My email is abebabe@oddworld.au.com ... I did try to PM you, but you weren't accepting PMs.

Many thanks!

Abe Babe...

Edit: So I don't double post, I guess I'll just edit my post instead. Now I've just got to work out how to fix the top part to the rod ... any suggestions?
