Ep 13 - Twilight Eye recap
Before going on, anyone catch the Lone Wolf and Cub cameo in Samurai Jack? It's a rerun, so folks may of seen this before.
Episode 13 - Twlight Eye
Subaru and BT are discussing the mysterious e-mail, and the phrase it contained.
It tells of the Eye of Twilight, and how if you go to it when it opens, someone is waiting. And how there is a power one must fight again.
The question is....how/where does it open, and who is waiting? What is the power one fights?
Scene change!
-
Bear is upset with BT over her sharing information about Tsukasa with Krim and Subaru. He says she isn't respecting Tsukasa's privacy. She chides him for expecting secrets not to be told. Anyways, since she "only" told Krim and Subaru, Mimiru won't find out. (Find out what, eh? See later this episode)
I suspect this is why Bear's information about the "mental patient" who pulled the plug last ep was limited.
Bear ponders on the Key of the Twilight. He doesn't think it's actually an item, per se. But rather it could be information, or even a flag.
RPG note, a "flag" is an event that opens up another event, seemingly non-related. Example, that bridge leading to the next land will never be fixed until you rescue the kidnapped child. Both of them conclude, with little hostility, that the Bear/Mimiru and BT/Krim teams are now rivals.
-
So much for BT's secret. Seems she told Sora too, and he's has no problem at all telling Mimiru. Perhaps in an effort to impress her. She's bolder now, and he respects that. Though tells her she'd better look out if she calls him Helba's lackey. Speaking of , though, he's Helba's messenger. There are "3 words to the Legendary Land" and there is a way to get there _without_ opening the Twilight Eye. And it involves Tsukasa."
-
Mimiru confronts Bear, angry he lied about Tsukasa the player's identity and condition. He apologizes twice. This was the reason for his looking for the Key of the Twlight, he thinks it will help Tsukasa. Subaru's and BT's investigations seem to point this way too.
-
Tsukasa. Flashback, little kid is watching a snow-screened TV. The scene burns away like film on an old projector that gets too hot. He's in the Secret Place, and notes that The Sleeping Girl in The World is like him in the Real World. They're both trapped. He brushes aside something said inaudibly by Maha. It doesn't matter if he's with The Girl, she won't wake up.
-
BT and Krim mention Subaru's assertion that the Key of the Twlight might not exist. Then they discuss how fields are generated in The World.
I'm adding my own experience with playing the games here.
Essentially, you input 3 words at a Chaos Gate. (the spinning humming blue circles) Any three words. These three words interact to form Field information. The element it is, the level of monsters, whether it has a dungeon or other attributes, etc. The combinations are, for all extents and purposes, infinite. This also explains why there's so few people we see in The World, other than towns or events. Theoretically, it could have everyone on the planet playing (never mind memory) and they'd have room in the game itself.
But Krim and BT conclude that the Twilight's Eye can't just be 3 words, that there has to be another condition, like using the proper words at the proper Chaos Gate.
BT muses that since The World was released in 2007, there's been a multitude of upgrades each year. Each time altering and erasing events, items, etc. The message was a year ago. If they're to search for an event from the very start, they need to find a way to catelogue the changes since then. This will help them narrow down their search. Krim agrees.
---
Mimiru and Bear are talking. Bear thinks that Tsukasa is a girl in real life. Bear interprets Helba's message that since Tsukasa can travel to any part of The World without Chaos Gates, if they were to find the 3 Words to the Legendary Land and gave them to him, he could take them there and bypass the Twlight Eye.
Speaking of the gender-unkown Wavemaster, Tsukasa is walking towards them. He wants to join in their quest to find the Key of the Twlight, if only they let him use it first. Not to log out, but to "open her eyes."
"Her?"
"The girl who sleeps eternally."
"You? I mean, in real life?"
"I told you, I'm a guy."
Bear is pleased that Tsukasa now has a goal, at any rate.

Krim and Subaru are talking in a throne room.
Krim thinks he's figured out what's changed and what hasn't, thus where the Twilight Eye is. Subaru's changed her mind on the Key of the Twilight.
Krim laughs at how complicated things are, and how different from the old days. Subaru thinks it's because Krim's more complicated, but he scoffs at that. Since Subaru wants the Key, he'll present it to her!
-
Tsukasa, Mimiru and Bear are trying to contact Subaru, but SilverKnight tells them she's unavailble. (Surprise, surprise. Bets that he won't mention this to Subaru?) Bear realizes that SK's been a player in The World for quite some time and many upgrades, and asks him if he knows about the Legendary Land. He does, actually. It's not _one_ Land, in fact, but 3. 3 different Fields that had the storyline of involving a battle with a Mysterious Force. <tm> But anything connected to that plot is closed now. He warns them against shaking the boat, and Bear tells him they're just interested in stabilizing things. He asks SilverKnight if he knew the words for any of the Lands, but he doesn't.
Bear and SilverKnight leave. Tsukasa's afraid to "go back there alone" and asks Mimiru to stay with him. They go to their usual place. They sit quietly for sometime, not looking at each other. Though occasionally one will clear their throat, nothing is said. Tsukasa's confused, as Mimiru's not nosing in the way she usually does. Mimiru says that she's decided that if Tsukasa wants to talk about anything, he will, and she'll wait till then. It's okay if he doesn't want to talk now.
-
BT and Sora are talking. BT's figured out where the Twilight Eye is, and will send Sora an email about where and when she'll open it. He's to secretly be there as well. "Tomorrow." Sora leaves, and BT is pleased with herself, over her "manipulations" most likely.
-
Bear, meanwhile, is at the bottom of a dungeon, having received an e-mail to meet with someone. Said someone warps there, to Bear's surprise. Normal players can't do that. This particular someone is a female wavemaster, in white garb that strategically conceals parts of her anatomy. She wears a combination headress/visor that hides her eyes, and has a half-smile/smirk as Bear realizes who she is.
-
BT and Krim are outside the Church. The Mysterious E-mail had fragmented words including "Stop" "Water" and "Navel." These are possibly the 3 Legendary Lands. This area was once called "Navel of Lake" but now it's called "Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground" after the Word System evolved to 3 Words. Krim reveals he knew all of this, since he's played since the very first editions of The World. This makes BT angry that he withheld this while she investigated.
Sora is hiding behind some battlements, observing.
-
Bear and Mimiru are chatting. Bear tells Mimiru that Helba (Mystery Woman, two paragraphs above) gave him the Words that go to the Legendary Land, and all they have to do now is find Tsukasa and have him teleport them there. But something's holding him up.
-
That something is Maha, is who very angry at Tsukasa for actually doing stuff other than moping. Tsukasa defies Maha, and leaves the Secret Place. A long cut of Maha's red eye watching him go. This can't be good.
-
Krim and BT are trying to figure out how to open the Eye, because even if this is the place, they still need the trigger. BT figures that it may be simple, that there are ways within the rules of detected items and paths. Magic Map, essentially. An item called a "Fairy Orb" or a Wavemaster ability can accomplish that. And BT is a Wavewaster. (Funny...in the games, there is no Fairy Orb equivilent for Wavemasters.)
She casts her spell, and the Twilight Eye opens. It's a blood red moon that rips open the sky, and reveals the Church to be on top of a dry lake. The blood red moon also opens a glowing path where the Church path ended. A path that ends at a _red_ Chaos Gate. Going....somewhere.
