Talking Kiki's Delivery Service

Ive had it for well over a month and finally I have got around to watching it =)

Such a great movie, love the ending where everyone is cheering on Kiki to save Tombo

I really like Jiji the black cat especially the scene where he has to fill in as the toy cat. Though I'm assuming he cant speak anymore or Kiki cant understand him anymore at the end of the film?

Good Miyazaki film I like it better the Totoro but I still think Laputa, Spirited Away and Castle of Cagliostro are the best

This is actually my favorite Miyazaki film ever (Mostly because it was my first). I just love this story, it was wonderfull.

Yea, in the original film (japanese speech), Jiji can't talk to Kiki anymore. It is supposed to show that Kiki has grown up, and doesn't need to rely on her "alter ego" anymore.

However in the Disney dub, Jiji says at the end, "Kiki can you hear me?", this was added in the dub, and was not in the original Japanese version. Incidentally Phil Hartman did the voice of Jiji, which I thought was very well done. Such a shame that he was killed by his wife.......

I saw this awhile ago and while I enjoyed it I wasn't nearly as impressed as I was watching Totoro or Spirited Away. That may have been because I was watching the dub with the awful Matthew Lawerence miscast as the voice of Tombo which was one of the few times a dub took away from my enjoyment of an otherwise great animated film. However the dub was worth watching to hear the late great Phil Hartman voice a character again. I may watch it again this time in Japanese to see if I get another impression of it.

The name is kinda corny, but rest assured, this is one of the finest anime's ever.

She delivers anything and everything. Anything that needs to be delivered. The anime is based on a Japanese children's novel, which is similar to the movie, but the author thought Miyazaki changed too much stuff. Infact she was about to pull the plug on the entire thing, but Miyazaki visited her house personally and managed to convincer her otherwise.

As it turns out the movie was a HUGE success (out sold Beauty and the Beast which was HUGE at the time in America, and I'm talking about the profits B&B made in America).

It generated a huge interest in the novel. In fact the author even wrote a sequel to the novel because it became so popular. It was called, "Kiki, and her new magic".

Sadly, neither of the novels were ever published in English, but the author did write the first one in English, however she never found a publisher interested in it.

Actually, her first Kikki novel has been translated recently! It has an incredibly ugly cover and you can already buy it at Amazon:

That is a hideous cover..., you would have thought that they'd use images from the anime for the book since the movie has been out in the US for quite some time now..., curious that..., a copyright problem maybe..?

Yeah, I want to read it, but can't stand that cover. If I ever buy it, I'll probably buy some Kikki promo poster and paste it on top and forget that travesty ever existed.

Author's homepage for Kiki's Delivery Service,

This is kick ass that the first novel has been translated! But ya that cover art makes kiki look really ugly... Ah well, it's the book that matters

*edit*

Turns out there's 3 books actually

covers respectively,
