Purchasing the Black Rose

Whoa! Today, I got my black rose saga DVD boxset in the mail!(Yes, I am a tad late

) I watched episodes 14-25, and noticed that there have been a lot of changes made to the English character voices (oi, Anthy!) as well for the storyline in general from the Student Council saga.

The English character voices have gotten better, but some retain the worst voices ever. Rachel Lillis as Utena has been doing quite better with her voice, though comparing it to the original, Rachel's too "girly" to voice the role of Utena. Noticing that Juri retains her English voice, and Miki's voice, (sounds a bit too old for him, yet it shows his maturity) I was a bit skeptical if any other voices had been changed....There have.

Anthy's voice is even worse than the Student Council saga. She seems too depressed and souless. At least the Japanese-seiyuu makes her seem creepy, which she is suppose to be. Saionji dreaded voice struck me again as well as Nanami's voice, Mitsuru's "manly" voice, and Wakaba's annoying growl! Bah! They are so bad. Yet, there were some new voices which were good to listen to such as Mikage's and Shiori's (Yeah, Lisa Ortiz!)

Enough of the voices...The plot. Before I watched the Black Rose saga, I replayed the Student Council saga to refreash my memory. Afterwords, I watched the Black Rose saga, and I noticed that this continuation of the series was much deeper, more of a dark tone, and had some really creepy themes (swords coming out of people) and the music was fabulous! (I thought I'd get sick of the duels, but with the added effect of desks, I was blown away.)

So in all, Black Rose was good. I can't wait to see the Apacolypse saga...It will be surely interesting

Hey, I agree with you about the english voices. The dub is so bad I cannot listen to it. I am so glad the dvd's have duel language.
The series really becomes more dark and disturbing after the Black Rose Saga (which I think the Black Rose Saga is the best of all the story arcs)

I thought the Black Rose saga was just creepy compared to the "lighter" shade of the Council saga. As I picked up the 1st DVD, I was like, "Oh no, more fighting with the council and happy-shoujo like themes."

My opinion changed after I saw the first episode, with the scary themes including the interview room and the pulling swords out of peoples' chest. As well, the music was just cryptic.
