Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (new series - October 2007)

A 15-second teaser trailer, which aired during Saturday's Toward the Terra broadcast in Japan, has officially announced Mobile Suit Gundam 00, the newest television series in the Gundam robotic mecha franchise. The series will air at 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays (after Toward the Terra ends in that timeslot) starting in October 2007 on MBS and TBS network affiliates. Gundam's original sponsor Sotsu Agency and original studio Sunrise will return for this installment.
The story will take place in 2307 AD of our modern calendar system—which is different from the fictional Universal Century calendar of the first Mobile Suit Gundam series, the Cosmic Era calendar of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, and the four other previously used calendar systems. It will be the first time a Gundam animated project officially takes place in our modern calendar system. (There were two apparent uses of AD dates in the first Mobile Suit Gundam series and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam series, but both dates were edited out of the later movie compilations of those series.)
The main characters will be four Gundam Meister mobile weapon pilots in Solestal Being, "a private military organization bent on eradicating war." The Solestal Being intend to use Gundams to enforce its goal. The teaser trailer ends with the phrase, "Rebirth begins through destruction." Japanese fans have noted the similarity of the character designs with the work of Yun Kōga (Loveless), although Sunrise has not confirmed her involvement. Sunrise has also not confirmed the involvement of Fullmetal Alchemist director Seiji Mizushima, Hellsing video series script supervisor Yōsuke Kuroda, Eureka Seven character designer Kenichi Yoshida, or the first Gundam story's lead voice actor Tohru Furuya as the narrator.

New Gundam series for October. I'm spiffed! Can't wait for this, I may not be a super big Gundam aficionado but I've watched my share of Gundam series; 08th MS Team, Stardust Memories, G Gundam, Zeta, Seed and Seed Destiny. And I love the designs that come out of the Gundam series. Bring on October!

Hmm....I suppose I'll be looking forward to this as well. I remember my first Gundam series was Gundam Wing. Found that on Cartoon Network. Can't say too much untill I see some designs, characters, music, something. Good, but not quite sold yet.
Edit: Just saw some screen caps of the characters. From the looks of it, the animation looks really good. And I'm going to go on a whim and say it's a girl. (The one wearing the glasses)

That guy with classes who looks like a girl (IT'S A TRAP) reminds me of Max from Macross too much, bet he's an ace pilot as well like Max.

"Rebirth begins through destruction."

Reminds me somewhat of what SEELE 05 said in End of Evangelion:
"The fate of destruction is also the joy of rebirth."
The plot sounds OK, even with the prospect of androgynous characters; looks like it will deal with the problem of how to stop wars without destroying the whole world. I also started with Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network. Apart from that, only seen a few episodes of 08th MS Team.

As long as none of the team who was apart of the writing staff in Gundam SEED Destiny is part of this, I'll have good expectations.

Character and mobile suit designs are out.
I think we can safely assume Exia is the main Gundam for the series, sleek and quite spiff. Dynames and Kyrios look pretty average. But Virtue sure does look ugly. Also not quite too fond of that circular chest designs on them, well they don't look all that great on the plastic models. Overall not too wowed by the designs but I can live with them.
As for the characters pretty standard fare.

Maybe the round things are escape pods or something like that. Personally I quite like the designs except for Virtue which is too bulky imo. Also, WTF at one of the characters being named Allelujah, and unless I'm mistaken his last name is Baptism.

The last two don't even look like they belong in a Gundam series. I'm thinking Zone of the Enders here. The first one looks somewhat like a throwback to the first Gundam series. I'm wondering what the other Mobile Suits will look like.

These designs seem to suggest they can transform into vehicles, like Transformers. Tieren looks like it can morph into some block-type armoured carrier and the last two look like they can turn into planes any minute.

Why don't they just name all the characters in this way - Buddha Nirvana or Jesus Christ or something.

I like the fact they reuse the 06-J II, at least they didn't rip-off the design this time around.

It's a new universe and I'm all for new designs, heck didn't enough people complain about SEED retreading/using old designs?
Anyway
Kenji Kawai doing the score (good move) and L'Arc-en-Ciel the first opening according to Gunota.

New universe? It's AD, don't you know that AD went into UC?
Come on Westlo, I thought you knew better.
