Critic...different styles

Hopefully, this post will help you out and make you aware of the different styles, forms and allow you to make observations for yourself. since its from one artist, you should be able to notice a single art style on all of them... at least an attitude or feel... ^^


This is an original character that has a mix of both western and eastern art. the form is somewhat western, but the feel gives it away. its more western though... ehehhe... but the large eyes and the coloring gives it away.


Little story behind the pic... this was created for an otaku fan who wanted a alter-ego on the net to represent her... name's freaky... turned out that this character is too female for her taste. ^_~' most people dub this a "hentai" pic because of the open erm... her zipper.. she forgot to um... zip it... ehehhe.. sweatdrops* this has nothing to do with perversion, more of style... This is more of the anime style...exagerated. has all the elements of CLAMP and the typical sexy anime girl...


Here's what you can call... western anime... why? if you observe the eyes, they're anime, but if you close them, they resemble the art above... the first one. it looks like disney, except with the hard edge anime feel to it... ^^

well, there i rambled... I'm actually criticizing my own art... it would be nice to hear what you say and what you've noticed from my art... ehehe... i hope it helps you out too... ^^

Nice job as always Nairohe...

The first one is unique, it doesn't look like most of the anime illustrations I've seen. So its combined western and eastern anime huh?...I like how you did that, its really cool. It looks like something out of a comic book.

The second one looks nice. The only thing that bothers me is the strange hand...but I like how you gave the character a sexy feel to her, and the zipper bit was great, it looks like it should be there. Is it eastern anime or something?

The third drawing reminds me of pokemon, because Ash sorta looks like that. So I'm guessing pokemon is sorta western anime also. Btw is he pulling up his pants or putting his hands in his pockets?

Hmm...I still don't understand the difference. Is it in the eyes? Or the coloring?...

Uhh... the first one works in all ways.... her look is a bit strange... but it's perfesional and I looove it! Expecally the hair!!!!

Second one.... what can I say? *drool* uh.... I mean... I know what you mean by exaggerated... I do the same, but in odd looking creatures... it makes it look a certan way.... gives it a certan mood... another good job

Third... Awesome... I'm guessing that it didn't take you long cause it's just so perfect. damn, soon I'm going to be working for you...

This pic on the other hand is hard core anime style. eyes, the lines, the pose, figure and coloring are all eastern... anorexic character is a style only available in anime...

okay, don't take ANY of it personal please^^ i'm just being harsh because i feel that that helps others to improve themselves.^^

okay, on the STYLE itself, i must say that it is clearly rather original and tasteful, however..... the overall look of the picture is very lacking in definition. the character doesn't feel as though she is in the background... it feels simply like it is behind her {as it most likely is} she also doesn't appear to be standing on anything. the "Magic" or whatever also isn't quite clear. it has the feeling that she's doing something, but i find it very difficult to tel quite what it IS that she is doing. the shading... i've seen you do better, though it is clear to me that you used a different tool than your used to... maybe a different tecnique rather. the colouring also doesn't look as though it is a part of HER. it looks like it is layed within her... maybe if you lessen the intensity of the outlines and use thinner, lighter lines. it's just too bold. {like my text!} and the eyes! NO!! NO PUPILS!!! EEK! sorry, no pupils bothers me. like in Shoujo Kakumei ::shudder:: eitherway, the idea is good, and the drawing is fair for a simply lined drawing, but i think you need to work on your blending of the colours and inklines and background so that it all looks like they are in the same picture rather than layers dropped ontop of eachother^^

::gives early LECTURE and GLARE to all of those who claim this pic is Hentai and bawls them out about how it's not Hentai without vulgar use of sexual intensities::
i rather like this one, as it appeals to me as the majority of your artwork does. the background matches her colours much better, which gives it a better quality of feeling that she is actually next to it. i love the texture on the clothing... you MUST tell me what texture that is and where you access these textures in PS5.0 {as well as Achenar's pants}.. i also love the way you give light to the CLAMP styled eyes. as well as the hair {though i still have yet to see anythiing better than your Nairohe Character and Aya Brea pics}.. the collar is a nice touch, but i wonder how that neck supports such a large forehead^^ and i've never been very fond of the glowing light used outside of the outline rather than taking the time to actually trim the character to the outline. ::glaring::

this kid is adorable.^^ he reminds me of some type of Southern California gang mascot or something^^ sorry, he just does for some odd reason. eitherway, i love the wrinkles in his clothing, however, his hand looks like he's holding up his trousers rather than placing it in his pocket^^ his hair is nice and soft looking too.

there, now i've rambled^^ i hope that you can take my critiques to use, and i love to see more of your work, as always^^ i must say that it appears clear to me on which ones you spend more time on {though i may be wrong} and you should take your time more. also, i love the Nairohe Character pics the most... she just has such life^^ alright, take care of yourself. adieu

in the first picture, she looks like she's been pasted on top of a background..like she's standing in front of a blue screen or something..so it weird.

second one I don't really like, she fits in with her surroundings unlike the first, but that zipper doesn't look right. It is open nearly all the way down her lower torso, even if she was shaved there'd be a bit of something poking out..and WHY ISN'T SHE WEARING ANY PANTIES???

Pretty much what I have to say about the forth one. Except for the printing out and hanging on refridgerator part. Its kyooteeful.

That fourth one, nairohe2.jpg, OMG, that is really beautiful...her pose is perfect and the wind buffeting her hair and the ribbon...what is she looking at? Her expression is certainly what I like the most...that's quality work, very cool.

here's another sketch similar to the fourth one. the contrast was set a little bit higher on this one... so the picture didn't come out the way it should be. this is just a study for a concept character on a story i had in mind. This style had a mix of Shirow and Clamp in it. If you look closely you'll notice it. I was a bit into RIOT when i did this pic... so she does kinda look like Axel... ehehehe...

Wow, that one is REALLY good nairohe. The only flaw i can find is that it looks like she's missing a finger. But its all good, not a biggie. Keep up the great work :B:

I'm just wondering.... how long do you take on sketches like that.... I have a problem with quick stuff. Oh, and when you personally do those type of character sketches, do you have someone model or sumthin? I love the pose of the last one...
