The big black blocks of Seele....

Werent Seele those guys that Gendou always conferenced with? Werent those same guys voices projected by those big black numbered blocks we saw later in the series? I'm kinda unsure about all that...

Yeah; SEELE was supposed to be secretly running the show, and telling Ikari and Fuyutsuki what to do. NERV was supposed to be the branch of SEELE in charge of Evas and I think the Instrumentality Project. However, Gendo was manipulating SEELE for his own means, and eventually the two sides were against each other.

i think they speak from those numbered blocks or columns because they don't want anyone to know who they are... its a secret.

Stu, I really doubt it's to "trick" Gendo, considering he'd probably know their voices anyway, and some of 'em have pretty damn distinct voices.

I have always wondered why they would switch, though, when they were using the video before. Maybe they weren't at "SEELE HQ" when it was sound only.

Or maybe Anno was watching 2001 a bit too much, who knows.

The people Gendo was talking to at the desk were technically SEELE but they weren't all of SEELE. They were just some higher members known as the comittee. The big Monoliths were actually SEELE in it's entirety. They are so secretive that they don't even want Gendo to see them so they switched to sound only. That's why there is a helluva lotta more monoliths than people in the committe.

i always thought that the people at the table to be known as the'Committee', who worked directly for SEELE.

Chairmen Keel is prolly the only memeber who is actually part of SEELE.

Hmm, methinks that the group of 6 at the desk were just the public face of Seele, while the 13 Monolithes were the real Seele.

I'm now thinking that perhaps the 6 members at the desk (excluding Keel) weren't even a part of Seele as Seele suggests, because I had an inkling that they were each just a representative of a major economic power, who were providing money for the construction of the Eva series. The 6 members only really complained about the cost of the Evas, and the expense of the repairs, while only Keel was really concerned with the development of the HIP. Keel might only be a representative from Seele like Gendo was a representative from Nerv, just to ensure that all goes according to plan.

I agree back with what the Cap said and elaborate on it..
The committee is just the highest members of Seele... however EVERYONE knew who the commitee was... however SEELE wasa secret organisation. Keel(kiel) is the chairperson of both the comittee and SEELE.

The blocks were sound blocks.... used for SOUND only... maybe to make the discussions less personal and to hide the identity of the other members... maybe in actuality some of the Seele members did not know who some of the others were and was ALL totally secret... but that was only one theory I came across eons ago. Most probbaly they used sound only to hide their identiy from people they were indiviewing.

Well their were 13 'Sound Only' blocks of SEELE... just as their were 13 EVANGELIONS, just as 2nd Impact occurs on the 13th of September.

Why? As EVERYONE has said... SEELE would of used sound only as a way of making things less personal. Obviously SEELE could see out... cause they made Ritsuko go naked in front off them, and I think that they were very aware that she was... even if they ordered a person to do it.. I think they would feel safer seeing who they are tormenting.

Actually, another interesting feature of Seele is that their blocks are the same as from the movie 2001 and 2010, which fits very well with Instrumentality.

Don't think Seele's quite the same as the committee... I don't recall hearing the really freaky, bald high-pitched voice guy (yellow committee guy) talking from the blocks when they stopped bothering to mask their voices.
