cd rom problems

Ok, well i am wondering why whenever my cd rom operates, my cds get very very hot.

I am using a delta 44x, a brand not known for quality, and every now and then a game will stall and my cd rom will stop operation correctly. The disk is still spinning but even pressing the button on the front of the drive will not open it. I have to cntl/alt del and shut it down that way, or actually reboot.

Is there some way to keep my cd rom drive cool? or at least cool than it is now.

I am seriously thinking about getting rid of it altogether though.

nope, not scratched at all.

If i put a cd into the drive it will continue to spin for hours, even if it isnt in use.

I have disabled my cd rom in my hardware configuration and will need to look into buying a new cd rom i think

Well CDs do get hot. And the dodgier the drive, the hotter they get. The CDROM in my old notebook was renound for this, you'd almost burn yourself taking them out. Nothing you can do to fix it I'm afraid, it would take some major tinkering. I'm guessing its really loud too, perhaps theres friction in there. My advice lash out and get yourself a nice PC DVD drive or burner

Like Ura here, one of the cd roms in the office is acting up like yours. its a Proview. I suggest that you try changing the cd drive with another brand. if it stil acts the same, then its probably not cd rom related.
