Is Afro Samurai really an anime?

So maybe this is a dumb question cause the technical answer is probably yes. But, when I think of anime i think of japanese voice actors and something that doesn't resemble kill bill gone bad.

Afro Samurai, on the other hand, actually has Samuel Jackson as the lead voice actor and well... i'm sooo not sure what to say about it.

Thoughts folks?

Is it even anime? or some hybrid meant to be a cross-over peice?

Of course it's an anime, vocal tracks have nothing to do with whether it's an anime or not period. Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust was made with an english vocal track originally as well.

What about that scene from Kill Bill? Would you call that Anime? Yes it was drawn in Japan but that is about it. It was made for an American film. And voiced by Americans. Did Kill Bill even get a Japanese dub?

From Wiktionary:

Noun

Singular
anime

Plural
anime or animes

anime (plural anime or animes)

1. Animated works that originated in Japan.
2. An artistic style used in Japanese animation that has also been adopted by some artists in America and other countries.

Therefore, Afro Samurai would indeed be an anime by the above definition. Does anyone has an official dictionary to back this up?

well ....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime

Anime - アニメ, ... is an abbreviation of the word "animation". Outside Japan, the term most popularly refers to animation originating in Japan. To the West, not all animation is considered anime; anime is considered a subset of animation.

Besides the voice talent just about all the work was done in Japan so I think this can scrape in as anime. As for content its good but not great. Somewhat tongue in cheek with respect to some of the shameless cliches of the samurai and anime genre it falls into.

I can recommend that you give it a shot but expect it to be a fun diversion rather than a life changing experience.

Hel yeah that counts as anime - it's the drawing style that counts, the style!

It was voiced by Americans speaking Japanese? What a rip. You all sicken me.
