It all depends what you want.

Anime Cornerstore is pretty good for domestic releases, but of course, Japan imports are always more expensive.

Amazon, Ebay (although I now hate ebay, they still have some honest sellers), various other online stores have some amount of selection.

For new releases, CDJapan is king, thier new system will even tell you availability, including for limited edition CDs. I get all my pre orders there.

AnimeJungle.com is my favorite used CD store. I got a LOT of CDs there, and I check their incoming stock about every day.

Yahoo Japan auctions are where you want to go for the very rarest CDs, but expect to pay a small fortune for what you want. I don't know Japanese, but just knowing it isn't enough, most sellers here won't ship outside Japan. The solution is to use a "Deputy service", a third party that bids on the auction for the amount you specify, and if your bid wins, they have the seller send it to them, then they send it overseas, and then from there, they hold onto it until you request them to ship to you. You can have them send several at a time, and that's what I'd suggest so you save shipping costs. If you want to try this, there are several, but I'd suggest AnimeChaos. They have an automated form you can fill out to place your bid in real time, which is definitely the best way to go. All deputy services work just about the same way, and have about the same costs, but some charge a lot more.

Their service fee is (example) $5 per auction (for winning bids going up to 2000 yen), which is reasonable, but that's not all. Wire transfers (used to pay the seller) incur a $2 bank wire fee. And then there's the matter of shipping from the seller to AnimeChaos' Japan branch, and then from there to AnimeChaos' US branch, and from there to you. (In case you live somewhere besides the US, you might want to pick a deputy service based in a different country, but AnimeChaos will ship internationally). Definitely, this is not a good way to buy cheap items like cards. If you buy something really inexpensive like 300 yen, you could easily pay 4 times that much in fees and shipping alone, and then you have to pay more shipping for the final transit to your address. But there are just too many things you cannot buy outside of Japan. Where else can you get something like a music box that plays "Eyes on Me" from Final Fantasy 8?

I just thought I should point out that all of that website's "import CDs" are imported from Taiwan (bootleg). That's very low of them to bend the truth. They may seem to have good prices, but there are too many stores that sell knockoffs, and many of them have about the same prices. And most of them won't even give the name of the company that made the CD, because they don't want people to know it's a bootleg.

I contacted AnimeToxic inquiring about the origin of their import CDs, and they said "they're all from Japan and HK". Which is a bald-faced lie. So I grabbed their nuts in a tight grip, and threatened to rip them off and hand them over to the government if they don't correct all the lies on their website. I can't wait to see their reaction.

Honestly as long as it plays the music I won't be too unhappy.

That's all fine and dandy, I don't mind companies selling bootlegs, because imports are so expensive. I was interested in the La Pucelle soundtrack, but it will cost me 3000 yen, and then shipping costs, to buy. But when a company lies about the bootleg, that's crossing the line. They have until the end of today to fix it, or I send their address to the authorities.

More additions to my collection:

486. Voogie's Angels - Popcorn Town (single)
487. Chobits - Raison d'Etre (single)
488. Chobits - Ningyo hime (single)
489. Mobile Suit SD Gundam: Kochira Mackenzie Detective Office
490. Sword & sorcery OST
491. Candy Lie (Limited Edition with DVD)
492. Digi Charat Nyo - Pyocola Dialogue the 3rd single (single)
493. Sentimental Graffiti Song Collection
494. Nuku Vocal & Soundtrack Album
495. La chanson du cygne
496. 3x3 Eyes Seima densetsu soundtrack 2
497. Quo vadis 2
498. Splendid Love Story for Kasumi
499. Digi Charat X'mas CD 2003
500. Future retro hero story "Fever in our space"
501. Megumi Hayashibara - Whatever (First Press)
502. Megumi Hayashibara - Perfume (First Press)

Megumi's Pyocola character is pretty fun...what exactly is with the "nyo" sound effect? What's it supposed to represent? Anyways, the last First Press Megumi album I need (Half & Half) will be in my next list of updates.

I lied. I have the Half & Half album, but it's in another set of Cds I haven't bothered to catalogue yet. I'll get around to it sooner or later. Here are my second-to-latest additions:

503. Assembler OX - Cool and Sparkling
504. Goddess Family Club (First Press)
505. Tenkuu senki Shurato Tenzan meiraku
506. Tenkuu Senki Shurato Mandaraga
507. Tenkuu senki Shurato Hachibu-shyu The World
508. Nanatsu no umi no tico -drama ed. $1,000,000 soudatsu ultra marine gre
509. Megu a mix
510. Megu a mix vol. 2
511. Josei-seiyu group ongakushi (First Press)
512. Lost Universe track contents 2
513. Lost Universe track contents 3
514. Starchild girls character song best
515. Animetoonz Vol. 2: Maria Kawamura

The Megu a mix albums are only instrumental remixes of Megumi songs, they aren't even that entertaining. What a disappointment. Anybody interested in the latest Animetoonz albums might want to rethink it, vol. 2 is nowhere near as good as volume 1, which featured Inoue Kikoku. Or at least that's my opinion.

Alright, the newest additions to my collection, this brings everything up to date, for now:

516. Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission OST
517. Kingdom Hearts OST (domestic release)
518. Masami Okui : S-mode #2 (First Press)
519. Final Fantasy 8 OST (First Press)
520. Megumi Hayashibara : KOIBUMI (Promotional release single)
521. Nadesico - Oshare Club 2 (First Press)
522. Hello Kitty - Kitty and Daniel (single)
523. Chobits - Let me be with you (single)
524. Megumi Hayashibara : Half and Half (First Press)

The Half and Half album has the distinction of being the only Megumi album that never came with a photo album or DVD, the only difference is that it has a cardboard cover. I guess King Records didn't go all out for early-bird shoppers back then. I finally got my first Hello Kitty CD that has Megumi in it, very interesting music, to say the least. I pulled stupid stunt and bought a 2nd copy of the International + Last Mission OST, I'll have to see if one of my friends wants to buy it.

It's time again. I got a few more of the harder-to-get Megumi CDs along with some other stuff. The 3x3 Eyes bonus CD is definitely the most expensive CD in my collection, being I had to buy a DVD set to get it... And the DVDs are useless to me because I don't know Japanese. I want to keep the CD, but if anybody wants to buy the 3x3 Eyes Limited Edition DVD set, PM me, I won't go any further into it in this thread because that's against rules.

525. 3x3 Eyes Limited Edition DVD set bonus CD
526. Hituji no Uta OST
527. Masami Kobushi
528. Cyber team in Akihabara promo single
529. Yamamoto Yoko Promo single
530. Phantom Brave JP release limited edition bonus CD
531. (unknown Hello Kitty CD COCC-14689)
532. Lunar Songs 2
533. Falcom Vocal Collection 4

I was under the impression that Nipponichi was going to release Phantom Brave with the soundtrack for the limited edition, but it only came with a 5 track drama CD, which is kind of a ripoff. At least we can count on Atlis to deliver, and deliver the soundtrack they are, for all pre-ordered games anyways.
